Macbook Air 2020 cursor doesn't respond

I've been using my 2020 MBA for almost a month now. Every time I lift the screen, it takes around 30 seconds or longer before the cursor responds (via trackpad). Any tips to solve this?

Thanks.

Hey justaskinaround,

It sounds like you're still having issues with your trackpad after taking those steps. We can understand wanting to know the best path to take going forward. We want to help.

To help isolate the issue further, the next step is to create a new user. Once the new user is created, please log into it, and see if the trackpad responds after the new user wakes from sleep. This article will show you how to create a new user: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

If there is no change with the the new user as well, try resetting the NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory). This is a small part of the memory which stores some settings, including information on the display and start-up disk. Resetting it will not affect any of your personal data. Follow the steps from this article: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac.

If the trackpad is still not responding as expected when waking from sleep, ensure that you have a current backup of your MacBook data by using one of these methods: How to back up your Mac.

With the backup complete, you will then restart to the recovery partition, and reinstall the macOS. Typically when reinstalling the macOS there is no change to the data of your Mac, having a backup ensures that your data is safe. Follow these steps to reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac, from macOS recovery: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery.

Hey justaskinaround,

It sounds like you're having an issue with your built-in trackpad not responding on your Mac after waking from sleep. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.

First, we'd recommend checking for and installing any updates that may be available for your Mac. This article explains how: How to update the software on your Mac

We'd also suggest resetting the SMC of your Mac to see if that resolves the issue. This article explains how: How to reset the SMC of your Mac

If the issue continues after taking those steps, we'd recommend testing to see if the same issue occurs in safe mode, as that would help determine if the problem is hardware or software related. This article explains how: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Thanks!

  1. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
  2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-
  3. Enter ➔ Safe Mode and see if the screen issue still exists in Safe mode. Log out of Safe Mode and then reboot computer. If that does not solve things then-
  4. Finally if none of the above works then you can enter ➔ macOS Recovery Mode and reinstall the macOS and see if that solves it.

Thats all I have for now. Beyond the above recommendations, You can have your MacBook Pro examined at the Apple Store or an Authorized Service Center when they open or contact ➔ Apple Support and take advantage of the Apple 1YR Warranty which should still be valid on your 2020 MacBook Air.
