iPhone photo import say not enough free storage - but I have loads

I am trying to import photos using the SD card adapter but my iphone says i don't have enough space - approx 3GB.

I have about ~28GB free on my iPhone.

My iCloud account has +100GB free.

Where don't I have enough space... it is not telling me!

Photos in iphone larger than photos in icloud Ok so I uploaded all of my photos on icloud, and it says 100Gb I downloaded the photos on icloud back to my iphone, now my iphone is full because photos takes over 200Gb of the storage in my iphonr Does anyone know what is going on?

iCloud storage doesn't add to the device storage.
