documents still going into cloud

I have deselected desktop & documents from the iCloud so documents don't automatically get sent there but alas, they still go straight to the cloud. Thank you beforehand for your help.

If there are two Macs signed in with same apple id and password on the same network , and in the first Mac " A " your iCloud Drive box and desktops and documents box is checked and you create new personal documents from Mac " A " , they will reflect in common iCloud.com that is also used for the second Mac " B " in which the desktops and documents box is still unchecked .

For the Mac " B " if desktops and documents is unchecked , it will be temporarily disconnected with iCloud and it will not effect the Mac " B " settings of desktops and documents , to be clear the device settings are confined to an individual Mac

Thank you, tygb, and I hope you are well. Good thoughts, although I don't have two Macs signed in with the same apple id/PW. I was on the phone with support for an hour and they seem to believe it was related to Microsoft OneDrive. Even though I do not use OneDrive it opens when I use Word. We tried to recreate the problem after trashing OneDrive and it was not duplicated.

All the best!
