Graphs

Hello again, I just had one more question about graphs. In this image there is a dotted line that is at 1.5 across and then there is another dotted line that goes down. I know these dotted lines are movable because my professor was able to move them around to the value that she desired. How would I access the same dotted line so that I can replicate what she was able to do?

Your prof probably did something like this:

  1. Insert > Shape > Rectangle
  2. Select the new shape and in Style tab at right choose Border > Line > and pick a dotted line and thickness.
  3. Choose No Fill under Fill
  4. Drag into position on the chart so lower left corner is on the origin and drag the upper right "handle" to size as needed.
  5. Copy-paste that rectangle, position its lower left on the origin and drag it larger than the first.

You can "nudge" the rectangles into an exact position by clicking and using the arrow keys.

The result I get here:

Is there any way that I could find out what number the dotted line lands at on the x-axis?

You can click the chart then in the Series tab in the sidebar at the right click 'Show Equation'.

On the chart you will now see something like:

y=-0.45x^2 + 1.5047x + 0.2549

If you know the y, then using the equation you should be able to solve for the x, and vice versa.
