Track pad Macbook Pro Retina 15" mid 2014 has gone crazy after Catalina upgr.

After installing Catalina my trackpad is doing all kinds of crazy stuff. The cursor flies over te screen, schakes, enlarges and freezes. My desktops switch spontaneously. It is crazy.

I checked settings in preferences (pointer & access), reinstalled Cataline through the Recovery but nothing seems to solve the problem. Rebooting in safe mode does the trick. But I can't work in safe mode. I now have an apple usb mouse plugged in and set the preference for the track pad to ignore.

But I am going nuts having to use a mouse for the first time in appr. 10 years.

Hope someone can help me out.

Hello wahanas,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your post that your trackpad is not working as expected after upgrading to macOS Catalina. While it works in safe mode, the errant behavior returns once you reboot as normal again. When this happens it is best to look into your login items. You may need to disable all your login items and then re-enable them one at a time to determine which one may be causing your trackpad to malfunction. This article will provide you with steps on how to remove automatic items which you may find helpful:

Unfortunately, this did not solve my problem. I thought it did. But it didn't. After appr. 15-20 minutes the same problem occurs. It stops when I plug in a mouse through the usb port ('ignore track pad input' selected in preferences). Could it be a hardware problem? Dirty connections in the track pad? Would be a coincidence of epic proportions, but still...
