Protocol for Updating Apple Mail

I have Apple Mail Version 10.3 (3273) and use MacOS Sierra. Which is the newest version that this Mac OS version will allow. Can I upgrade to a newer or higher version of Apple Mail? Please advise.

iMac, OS X 10.11

Start with looking at the market introduction date from menu : About This Mac. If the date in parenthesis for your iMac is older than 2012, then you can only upgrade to macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra). View that link in Safari, and farther down in it, will be a link to get High Sierra.

If you iMac is a 2012 or newer model, then you can upgrade to Mojave (32 and 64-bit software), or Catalina (64-bit software only).

An upgrade to the operating system also brings with it a newer version of Apple Mail.
