Do I need to keep junk mail in my junk mailbox for it to 'Learn'

The junk filter is working really well, but I was wondering if I need to keep the mail that ends up in the Junk mail box or does the filter 'Learn' because I have clicked the Junk button in the past?

Thanks!

Leave it in Junk, or delete it, or Erase Junk Mail.

Just don't move legitimate junk to the Inbox because that action tells Mail it's not junk.
