is iMac 2020 Glitching normal ?

Hi,

I have a brand new 2020 iMac and cannot enjoy fully because there is white glitching line coming up from nowhere especially with dark background. Is it normal ? or is it a malfunction of my iMac ? Do I need to replace it ? It still between 14 days and no idea where and who to aks. Its hard to catch the moment as as screenshot but the white line is coming like a lightning style. Also noted sometime in same area but sometime different area.

Thanks in advance for your suggestion and advice.

For your information, during the first 14 days of purchase, you can return a device for a full refund if you purchased it directly from Apple. There is no "replacement" - it is simply a return. You can then decide if you want to buy another. You can, however, exchange it if the local store has the item you want in stock. Here is Apple's return policy including instructions on how to return an item:

Since we are not Apple employees, but just other end users, we do not know what Apple's policies or plans may be and are not allowed to speculate per the ToU here. So, unfortunately, we cannot say if a replacement would be functioning well or not.

Out of curiosity, you said it was a brand new machine, but your signature shows that you are running 10.13 - a brand new one would have come with 10.15. So, exactly what year/model is yours?

Hi(Bonjour)!

I've just started my New iMac 5K 2020 10 cores 16 Go stock RAM + 5700XT 16 Go VRAM, fresh install, no migration assistant, stock RAM, dark mode, not installing the supplemental 10.15.6 update, ... and...

Alas, I've seen white line after 1h30 on use and around 2-3 times /hour since.

My HD camcorder is pointed to the screen and record the problem, just to document the case.

I see the square corner issue too.

I remember the Graphic Card problem on my 2006 PowerMac G5 with a radeon X1900GT... never solved neither by Apple nor AMD because Apple switch to intel, leaving G5 owners orphans with abandoned drivers development. 'Hope that Apple Silicon and Apple custom made GPU will not drive us in this wall again.

And I remember my 3 2011 MacBook Pro and their faulty AMD GPU.

Hi(Bonjour)!

As I use FCP X, Motion and Affinity Photo with Metal GPU acceleration, a pretty hefty GPU is needed with a load of RAM, thus the choice of 5700XT.

My OWC Memory modules are on the way to crank my iMac to 32Go, as my 2017 and 2013 are.

I'll keep the machine, I'm sure that it's a software problem. The lines always start from the mouse location. And the problem is not there when switching resolution. The screen recording from quicktime doesn't show the line.

If it's a hardware one, AppleCare will change my machine anyway for next three years. And the occurence of the lines are around 2 to 3 times/hour. Not too distracting and very furtive.

Hi M. B.,

The one you said about the Mouse move is absolutely correct. It is exactly what is happening.

Secondly, I am testing the one with Apple OEM memory 8GB before sending back seems no line yet. its been quite a while that I have constantly running FCPX and motion.

I have also requested to www.owc.eu, which is I believe Macsales.com operate in eu, to help me to get new RAM module. I will wait what they will reply whether they will exchange me with new complete moduwww.owc.eu,

But asked me whether I have tested with OME module for this issue. So far for a day haven't seen the line yet on 8GB iMac yet. It could be anything.

And very important thing is YOU sir. Your experience can save people like me from ending up with dirty ball in hand :P.

Please keep posting your finding and solution, if you find one.

Thank you very much.
