I bought an ipad for someone and set it up with my apple id but want to re-set it under their name...

Use this procedure to properly prepare the iPad for its new owner:
What to do before you sell, give away or trade in your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support
This procedure will wipe the iPad - and, crucially, ensure that the Activation Lock that is associated with your AppleID is deactivated. After preparing the iPad, it can be setup by the new owner with their own AppleID.
