Disk Utility shows only Apple disk image Media

I have a flashing question mark problem with my MacBook Pro as well documented here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204323

On Step 3 in the instructions above, I run into a problem. While in macOS recovery's Disk Utility I only see Disk Images, not Internal Drives:

I have several questions:

Based on the instructions for Disk Utility's Disk Repair (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210898) am I supposed to see Internal Drives as well?
Am I supposed to run Disk Repair on the Disk Images?
Could I just reinstall macOS?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Click on "View" and select "Show All Devices". If the physical internal drive does not appear on the left pane of Disk Utility, then the drive has failed.

You have no mounted drive which usually means it has died and needs replacing.
