deleting music off apple watch

I am attempting to delete music from my apple watch but am running into issues. The Usage setting indicates that the Music app has 1.6GB of use which I am assuming is music. The watch app on my phone indicates that I have 167 songs stored. I have done everything I can to try and delete all music off my watch. when I go to the music app on my watch, i go to playlists and/or song and hit "remove" but it doesn't do anything; i get a message that directs me to the music app on my phone to turn on the sync library feature to add the song.

When i go to the watch app on my phone and scroll down to Music, it appears that there are no songs stored on the watch (but clearly there are).

I need to delete the songs to be able to clear up space on the watch.

Any Suggestions?
