Youtube becomes intermittent after upgrading to IOS 14

Iphone X connected to youtube through Apple TV worked fine with IOS 13. I upgraded to IOS 14 yesterday and youtube becomes intermittent. Connection is dropped (a spinning wheels shown on TV screen) as auto-locks kicks in. I can't leave youtube to use other apps (check emails for example) when watching youtube or the connection will immediately drop. The youtube has become extremely unstable after I upgraded to IOS 14 on my iPhone X. Is this a reported problem for IOS 14? Does the Apple TV need a new driver as well?

I have found the same thing with my iPhone 6s using YouTube app and Airplay with an Apple TV 3rd Generation-- it will not play the video via Airplay mirroring for even one second. I troubleshot it for 45 minutes, restarted everything, no luck.

What worked fine up until yesterday now does not functions at all. If I turn off Airplay (i.e. change output to the "iPhone" again), the video will start playing instantly. As soon as I attempt to Airplay again --whether from within the YouTube app menu or via the iPhone's Airplay mirroring control-- the video stops and will not run.

This absolutely sucks, I know several schools which have Apple TV 3rd Gen deployed for teachers and students to mirror iPads, and if iOS 14 does the same on iPads, this is going to be a disaster. The new Apple TV gen 4 and above is too expensive and complete overkill for use in schools. It sounds like the Apple TV 4K "works" for you, BobT1, but with degraded, unacceptable quality.

What the heck, Apple?? Can anyone else test this?

Yes, youtube does play normal if output is directed to iPhone X. The intermittent problems persist in attempt to Airplay via Apple TV 4K AFTER upgrading to IOS 14. The intermittent problems seem slightly better than not playing at all via iPhone 6s as reported by MacToeKnee, but it quits working too often to claim working and the video always returns to the early stop even if Airplay recovers for a little while. Fast-forward by hands in search for the right segment throws us back to 19 century. Help, Apple....

I am getting the same, and other similar issues. I think the problem may be on the Apple TV’s OS, though. Intermittently my phone, my iPad, my MacBook, all will lose connection to the Apple TV. If I am using my phone as the source for YouTube, the video will just stop playing and continue playback on my phone. If I am using my phone as a remote, and the Apple TV is the source for YouTube, it will lose connection and I can’t use the remote functions. It will attempt to connect then after about 30 seconds will say it couldn’t connect. I also use my iPad for the same functions, and usually have both handy (I just reach for whichever is closest) and I’ve noticed consistently that all my devices are unable to connect to the Apple TV, and when it resolves itself for one, it resolves for the others as well. I have had no issues with airplay to any other devices (MacBook>iPad, iPhone/iPad>HomePod for example). The Apple TV is the only one that had issues, and it has issues with all devices. It will even revert to using my tv’s speakers instead of the HomePod when this happens.
