ISSUE WITH STACKING LARGE WIDGETS (iOS 14)

Use widget stacks

With iOS 14, you can use widget stacks to save space on your Home Screen and in Today View. You can use Smart Stacks or create your own widget stacks.

Create a Smart Stack

A Smart Stack is a pre-built collection of widgets that displays the right widget based on factors like your location, an activity, or time. A Smart Stack automatically rotates widgets to show the most relevant information throughout the day. Here's how to create a Smart Stack:

1. Touch and hold an area on your Home Screen or in Today View until the apps jiggle. 
2. Tap the Add button  in the upper-left corner.
3. Scroll down and tap Smart Stack.
4. Tap Add Widget.

Create your own widget stacks

1. Touch and hold an app or empty area on the Home Screen or Today View until the apps jiggle.
2. Drag a widget on top of another widget. You can stack up to 10 widgets.
3. Tap Done.

Edit a widget stack

1. Touch and hold the widget stack.
2. Tap Edit Stack. From here, you can reorder the widgets in the stack by dragging the grid icon . You can also turn on Smart Rotate if you want iOS to show you relevant widgets throughout the day. Or swipe left over a widget to delete it.
3. Tap  when you're done.

You need iOS 14 to use Smart Stacks or create your own widget stacks.

Same 2 problems happening to me. Almost impossible to stack

up large widgets together and that process broke down all my folders into endless pages of apps.... so so ****** about the whole thing! Years of organising gone in a few seconds 😳

Exactly the same thing has happened to me. Several times. I reorganised my folders only for it to happen again and again.

I’ve submitted feedback. Also received some advice from some about resetting me phone. Didn’t help. Hope this gets fixed soon

THANK YOU! This was driving me crazy and following your suggestion I managed to get it to work. Tap on the top left corner of the widget and drag it onto the screen to the left, and the large widget there froze in place rather than jumping to another screen. (All of my folders scatter their contents everywhere still though, grrr)

Thank you for the step by step instructions, I really appreciate it. They’re sort of similar to what I tried but I only found one way to get them to work:

Repeating again and again and I was able to get it to work—to one by one add one widget to my Smart Stack. That’s how I got it to work. So thank you for this alternative way to build a working Smart Stack!

(Side question: Does anyone know the limit of how many widgets I can have in a Smart Stack?)

I’m surprised more people aren’t complaining about this. Small stacks and Medium stacks work just as expected, it’s only Large that are the jiggle mode nightmare. Maybe that’s why...

Well, I don’t really understand the difference between a “Smart Stack” and widgets that are manually stacked over one another. (Both have smart rotate function) 🤔

Smartstack by default have some widgets already stacked, whereas manual stack could have widgets that we choose.

Maybe Smart Stack may remember our choice once edited like you mentioned and will be available in that fashion next time we choose it - need to try though.

Yes, most people seem to be using the small and medium ones due to which there are not many discussions happening so far about the large widgets’ issues.

I have also noticed that the medium widget of Siri Suggestions won’t get stacked with any other medium widgets - please tel me if you were able to do it otherwise🤔

This is janky af but worked. Thanks for finding the solution. I sent feedback about this. I think the easiest way to fix it would be to add functionality to the "edit widget" UI. If Apple added a "+" so you could pull up a list of widgets to add you could pick one to add to the stack directly, the problem would be solved in an elegant way.

I was thinking the same thing. If the “edit widget” UI had more options it would be so much easier. Intuitively, that’s where I thought I should be able to add any widget to a stack or change the features of the stack/ widget.

Exactly the same issue. It used to work, but now every widgets refuse to stack. It's like the bottom widget is "slippery" and whenever I try to stack a widget on it it just slides to the next screen (often a new blank screen). Very frustrating loss of simple functionality.
