Activity GPS issues after watchOS 7 and iOS 14 updates

This morning I upgraded my iPhone XS Max to iOS 14 and my S4 Watch to watchOS 7. I then went for a run, using the Outdoor Run activity on my Watch as usual, holding my iPhone while I ran (as I was listening to a podcast with AirPods). When I finished, everything was recorded as normal, and I could sync the activity to Strava.

Later, I went for a walk. I used the Outdoor Walk activity on my Watch, but this time didn't take my iPhone. When I returned, and attempted to upload the activity to Strava, I received a warning that no GPS/route data was present. I checked the Fitness and Health apps, and sure enough, there was no route on the map - only the starting point.

I spoke to someone at Apple Support and they suggested I turned off/back on a couple of related privacy settings. I have since tried another Outdoor Walk activity, without the phone present, and the problem persists - no GPS/route data.

My wife also tried the same this evening, after upgrading her iPhone X and S4 Watch too. She had the same results - i.e. with just the Watch, no GPS/route information was saved with the activity.

This seems like a bug to me. Has anyone else experienced the same issue, or has any suggestions as to how to fix it?

I have a similar problem. I don't see any map (gps data) on any activity (even from the past - before update to IOS14 and watch OS7), but also some of my workouts now even don't sync from Apple Watch to iPhone at all. I can see the workouts on Apple Watch, but not on iPhone. Even kcal and minutes are recorded correctly.

Same for me with the update to my Apple Watch 4 and iPhone 11 Pro. All GPS data is gone on plus the Fitness app does not show outdoor walks or indoor cycling anymore even if the watch does record those workouts. It only appears to record my indoor runs on the treadmill at this time. Don’t want to re-pair my watch until this is figured out at Apple.

Same issue here. iPhone 11 pro & series 4 watch. I updated my phone Saturday and noticed issues with my heart rate (said chart unavailable) & gps only showing starting location, so I updated the watch on Sunday thinking it was a compatibility issue. Since then I've spent three days trying to figure out what is wrong--including 2 hours of chatting with Apple support yesterday and they acted like they had never heard of this issue. Super frustrating. I'm glad I found this thread-I've been going crazy un-pairing, re-pairing, updating settings, setting up the watch as new. I tried it all. Hopefully the software update with a fix for this bug will be released soon.

I use an Series 4 LTE watch with an 11 Pro Max. Yesterday I updated the phone to iOS 14, but left the watch at 6.x-whatever. Did an outdoor walking activity to close my circles for the 266:th consecutive day (yes, every day 2020). Everything seemed fine.

Today I updated the watch to watchOS 7. Did an hour of outdoor walking. Circles updated fine, today’s exercise is there in Fitness, it shows quite normal heart rate and distance figures but the map is just a green dot where I started...

All previous exercises have lost their maps, there is just no icon for the map at all.

Battery life on both watch and phone appear to be significantly worse than before the updates. The watch went from 50% to 40% in 45 minutes while I was just sitting still, and a 10 minute indoor walking activity left it at 28%. The phone gets noticeably warm from light usage in a way that it never did on iOS 13. Never had any betas on these devices.

I’ve now unpaired & re-paired, still no maps.

This has to be on Apple's end because my other apps seem to be tracking my calories burned plus total burned. Also I have missing data!! Its showing my data from 2019 (which is wrong either way) saying I only burned 500 as a total that day. Please update us Apple!! It's so frustrating that they haven't even replied or given a statement on the issue just because only a few users have spoken out. Please fix this!

Agreed. And just a suggestion -- pickup HealthFit (iOS app). Besides the ability to sync your workout data into all kinds of third party systems, it also has a backup feature to write all your workout data to iCloud. I have been doing this for a long time -- just in case Apple has a bad day.

Related, it also isn't a bad idea to get a Strava (or similar that can auto sync) account and use it for tracking purposes -- again, in case Apple has a bad day with your data. With either (both) of these approaches, your data is stored elsewhere.

My two cents.

Same, iPhone 8 with iOS 14 and I watch series 4 with wiOS 7 - stopped working after watch update - no longer sync hung exercise data from native app - tried reset, reboot, Bluetooth and Wi-fi restarts, disconnect and repair using backup but no luck. Haven’t tried disconnect and repair as a new I watch will try that tomorrow. Annoying

So, I used health app for 5 minutes today (according to the battery preference meter) and it used 16% of the battery. I can’t help but think this is somehow related to the activity app not showing the data correctly, but maybe not.

iOS14/WatchOS 7 are failures like I’ve never experienced. If the data is lost (4 years of workouts etc) this is bad bad bad. Hope the data has not been deleted but only failure to read it.

My Watch has been doing crazy health tracking related stuff since the update right before OS7, and has only gotten worse since. my running GPS has been all over the place too, ran 2mi and it says I only did .75mi

Day one on OS7 I had 1800 calories burned, and 147 min of exercise stand at 16/12 at 9AM after having done nothing, but take watch off charger at 7:30 and drive to work. later at 10:30pm its still showing the same data just with more the lines filled in.....

1. Resolution: I too had this problem. The resolution was not ideal but it worked for me. With Apple Support assistance:

Unpaired the Watch from iPhone
2. Erased iPhone (make sure all your data, including Health data is backed up first)
3. Restored from Backup (iPhone)
4. Restored from Backup (Watch)

As a result, I was able to get my GPS data reporting correctly in Fitness app

This fixed it for me, and I had tried everything else prior to this. The only data missing is rides I did while it was messed up. Everything else is now back on the iPhone and it tracked my ride this evening.
