Activity GPS issues after watchOS 7 and iOS 14 updates

This morning I upgraded my iPhone XS Max to iOS 14 and my S4 Watch to watchOS 7. I then went for a run, using the Outdoor Run activity on my Watch as usual, holding my iPhone while I ran (as I was listening to a podcast with AirPods). When I finished, everything was recorded as normal, and I could sync the activity to Strava.

Later, I went for a walk. I used the Outdoor Walk activity on my Watch, but this time didn't take my iPhone. When I returned, and attempted to upload the activity to Strava, I received a warning that no GPS/route data was present. I checked the Fitness and Health apps, and sure enough, there was no route on the map - only the starting point.

I spoke to someone at Apple Support and they suggested I turned off/back on a couple of related privacy settings. I have since tried another Outdoor Walk activity, without the phone present, and the problem persists - no GPS/route data.

My wife also tried the same this evening, after upgrading her iPhone X and S4 Watch too. She had the same results - i.e. with just the Watch, no GPS/route information was saved with the activity.

This seems like a bug to me. Has anyone else experienced the same issue, or has any suggestions as to how to fix it?

I am using iPhone 11 and series 3 watch.

Both are up to date with the latest updates and settings are set according to Apple advice.

Prior to the updates everything worked perfectly including the workout route map in both the Activity (now Fitness) and Health apps.

Now - only a start pin shows in the route map section in the Activity/Fitness app and nothing at all in the Health app.

Note - I have my phone with me at all times.!!!

On top of that I have lost all my previous route map data - I can still see the Klms etc but not the route taken.

I also use the Paddle Logger app for kayaking - since the update this app no longer records the route map nor the Klms travelled - all I get is the length of time and heart rate - whoopee

Hoping Apple sort this issue out very soon - PLEASE!

An interesting observation: while I have (painfully) gone through the effort of resetting both my phone and watch to successfully get back to a state where gps works again, after a run this am, my heart rate data failed to post into the iOS 14 fitness app. The app complains that the app used to capture the heart rate data may have been unable to collect data properly. In my case, that would be watch os7 Workout app.

Here is the fun part: my Health Fit app (awesome, btw) can successfully report both gps and heart rate date.

it’s becoming more and more clear to me this issue we are all complaining about is specific to the Apple Fitness app in iOS 14.

I have a similar problem, only maybe worse:

People here are reporting a loss of GPS data. I’m not getting ANY data from my “workouts.”

I am on Watch OS7 and iOS14. Several times over the past few days I have one for walks and started the Workout app, which has tracked the walk while in progress. But when I am done and record the workout on my Watch, it does not show up at all in the Activity app, nor does it sync with the other app I use, Lose It!.

So, yeah, Houston, we have a bug.

Please fix it.

You have to reset the phone too. Unpair the watch first. Reset the phone and restore from backup. Re-Pair watch ( used restore from backup). All my historical routes are back. Routes that were not recorded correctly on the phone before are still gone in my case. New routes, data, etc are now working for me. Check farther back in the thread, others have posted the same information already, and it worked for them.

I finally followed he steps others have taken: reset iPhone (erase all data), reset watch (erase), then backed up from iCloud. Since I did this (Two days ago), all workouts have been recorded in the Fitness app (five workouts), with all GPS map data (including elevation gained, route, etc). Of course there is no map data for the workouts I did from the iOS 14 update until two days ago, but such is life.

Apple are most certainly aware of the issue. Other people gave spent time on the phone with them and logged tickets for their engineering team, I have personally spent more than 6 hours on the phone with them running through all sorts of t/shooting and testing.

I have had tickets with their engineering team since early last week. They've done nothing but come back with time wasting questions that if they looked at the information provided to them they would see they already have.

Apple Support claiming not to know about it is more likely them not having the ability, or willingness, to link large numbers of issues to a parent problem.

I am also experiencing the same issues since I upgraded to iOS 14 and WatchOS 7, and no change since updating

to iOS 14.0.1 & WatchOS 7.0.1 I’ve tried everything advised through this post with the only change losing my non apple music. Still no GPS data, data missing from all previous workouts & the data that’s imported into Strava is wrong.

Very disappointed as I had a race yesterday & couldn’t load the right data ☹ My longest run too.

Also the battery life is terrible now, needs a recharge around 3pm when it used to last until the next morning.

No no, Fitness+ is an upcoming paid service with exercise "classes" that can be watched on Apple TV and probably other devices. What we're seeing here is just a stupid bug probably mostly connected to the rushed iOS 14.

Right now, by the way, I have not had a single exercise synced from watch to phone since Friday. Activity circles always match up, though. Almost tempted to make a full phone reset now, if I can make enough space for a local backup.
