watchOS 7 Battery Drain

I updated my series 4 Apple Watch to WatchOS 7 today. I use my watch all day and usually have about 30% battery left when I go to bed and start changing. Today my phone got to 10% by 2:30 pm! Why is this drawing so quickly?

Even worse. Starting the day with 95% battery it went down on a so far lazy day to 50% at 3pm. I then went bicyling and tracked the sport. At 5 pm the battery was empty and the watch turned off. I never had anything even close like that. Normally I get easily through one day + night even tracking several ours of sports.

This happened after upgrading my series 5 to watch OS 7. I turned of the sleeping and handwashing feature and hope this will help

First day of WatchOS 7 was fine (44mm Apple Watch Series 5), but last night & today have been a nightmare. My watch was at full charge when I put it on for bed. When I woke up, it was flat. (Was using the new sleep function which I thought turned off the always on display & used a low power watch face). I charged it up fully at about 9:30 AM, then by 6PM I was at 10%. I can't remember doing anything that taxing on the watch.

The battery on my Apple Watch 5 is draining like crazy after updating to watchOS 7. Before I updated I would typically log a 2 hour workout in and wear it for about 14 hours and still have better than 30% of the battery remaining. After updating and doing the same routine I was shocked to get a low battery notification - about 8 % remaining. I’ve read all the posts in this discussion group and I hope Apple does too. This is obviously a software issue that needs immediate attention. I turned off the Background App Refresh toggle to see if it helps slow down the battery drain until Apple addresses the issue. I’ll post the results of my little trial.

I deleted the pairing and set it up again. That produced no change. I then powered off the iPhone, powered off the Watch, waited a little while then powered on the iPhone, waited until it was fully booted and tHen powered on the watch. That did not seem to improve things. I then did the same again, powered off the iPhone followed by powering off the Watch but then left the Watch off whilst I paired my original series 0 with the iPhone as it had been in a drawer for a long time unused. Sadly there is no update to the IOS for series 0. My thinking was that if I go out for a walk I can at least use the series 0 if power goes down on the series 4. It took quite some time to configure the series 0, ages, clearly things have improved since then. Once done I then powered up the series 4 again. It now seems to be Ok. battery power does not seem to be dropping like it did. Perhaps there is merit in leaving it off for a long time before switching on and letting it connect with the iPhone.

I am facing the same issue. Updated my Series 5 cellular Apple Watch to watchOS 7 2 days ago and I need to recharge my watch in the evening. The previous watchOS 6 would allow me to exercise 45-60 min, mirrored my iPhone notifications and it would still be left with 30% battery or sometimes even more when I went to bed. Is Apple gonna fix this? I guess many users need help on this.

Same problem here. Watch 5 44mm stainless cellular (not used), updated Sept 17. No apparent significant improvement with background notifications turned off, always-on turned off, reducing brightness and hand-washing timer turned off (loosing approx 8% per hr, even w/o activity).

I would prefer to revert to 6.1.1 to make watch useable again and also reduce unnecessary battery wear.
