Is there any way to return to the calendar format prior to the latest update?

No, you can't revert.

The previous version with the scroll dials for setting date and time was much more graphical and intuitive.

I haven’t spoken to a single user who doesn’t hate this new version. Yep, we hate it.

It’s much too easy to set the wrong date and time.

I like it. I find it much easier.

To be honest, I am as passionate about how bad many of the features of the original calendar were and applaud the changes now. In what I would describe as idiotic, the way to set time for events was time consuming and too difficult to set accurately. Now being able to tap into the time box and type in the exact time you wish to set an event increases accuracy and reduces time for me immensely. This is especially true since I use military time, so no need to enter am or pm after the time.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and the only way to get Apple to recognize your is to use the feedback link that Idris provided. They do not read these threads for information or feedback. Use the link that Idris provided. And as mentioned multiple times here in the thread, there are a variety of different calendar apps in the App Store, and one may better suit your needs. Most of them also have a greater variety of features that the native calendar app does not have. If you haven't noticed, many of the native apps on iOS devices are really very basic. That allows 3rd party vendors the ability to design apps that provide many more features and abilities in their apps, thereby encouraging app developers to provide quality to iOS users.

"New"? I guess that depends on your definition of "new". The iOS calendar had its last significant update in September of 2020. If you had read any of the thread you've just posted it, you'd know that no one reading here can change anything. You can let Apple know your thoughts here:

While you're hoping for Apple to change it, consider looking at one of the hundreds of other calendar apps available in the App Store. They all use the same calendar database so there's no re-entering data.

If you took the time to read through these 13 pages before you added your "me too" post, you would see that no one here could do anything to bring the old calendar setup back. You would also find out how you can let Apple know that you disapprove of the new calendar.

It's not impossible. If you're in the Month View, either tap the day you want to look at or the "Today" button at the bottom left if the day you want to look at is today. You can switch between the calendar and agenda views the same way you could in the previous version by tapping on the icon at the top of the screen that looks like a stack of lines.

No matter what Apple does, some percentages of the user base will be unhappy. I, for one, would be unhappy if they took away the new numeric keypad for time entry in the calendar. And, realistically, Apple is unlikely to ever offer as much "customizability" as some people want. And, whatever they do, it will change in a year or two anyway.

All you can do is submit feedback, find third party apps and roll with the changes.

There is literally no one here that could possibly do anything about your issue.

(Also, many of us here love the new format.)

You can complain here; Apple does read them and pass them along to the appropriate managers.

And the answer is NO. It’s that simple. And carping about it in this user to user forum is a waste of time for you and for everyone who has to read the same tripe over and over and over and over. You are free to tell Apple your opinion, with the feedback link that has been posted dozens of times in this interminable thread.

BTW, you have just “spoken” to me. I much prefer the ability to just type in the time. I have always hated the scroll wheels in many apps with a passion. I just tap on the time box and enter “1115” and it sets it to 11:15. So now you have spoken to a single user who thinks the latest version is a really great improvement.

Arguably, it was broken - now you can just type in a time instead of having to spin wheels.

If you feel differently, you can let Apple know at the link below; complaining here literally accomplishes nothing.

I certainly made a point of letting them know how glad I was they got rid of those annoying scrollers and replaced them with a nice, large, easy to read even without my glasses keypad.
