Email photo as attachment, not embedded, in iOS 14

I just updated my phone to ios14. I have an hotmail email account I’ve used for years. Before I updated I could email pictures to my work email and outlook account and they would be attachments at top of email. Easy to save, copy, print, etc. Now the pictures show up in the body of the email. Full screen and not easy to work with. Is there a setting I need to change to get it back to the way it sent pictures before I updated. Thanks

SOLVED!

i figured out the issue with embedded vs attachment on IOS 14. If you send an email in HTML, it will always embed the photos. If you send Plain Text, the photo will be attached. Any formatting in the email triggers HTML. It could be your signature or any other text if it is bold, colored, underlined, italic etc.

If you have a formatted signature, you cant just change it, you have to delete it by selecting ALL then backspace to delete it. Then type your signature as plain text and your pictures will be attachments

My ipad came defaulted with a formatted signature, after changing it, this worked

Dear Halliday

am I missing something here as I mentioned it doesn’t seem to matter which email address I send from or to ( not using Exchange or Outlook at all ) iCloud, gmail, yahoo, btinternet - the photos are shown inline in the email. Perhaps someone can help me to let me know where I’m going wrong ? Thanks for any advice

Sorry, I must have missed the post with the helpful long-term advice. The ones I saw could be summarised as: a) use the correct terminology; b) this is not the right place to complain; c) it's not an issue that is caused by Apple; d) everything will be solved if you stop trying to do what you want to do, and have done successfully in the past, accept your fate and do something less convenient; e) you are all dinosaurs who need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

I can see that it is very convenient to blame the email client, but since the problem seems to exist for many different email clients, and until recently didn't exist for all those clients, Occam's razor suggests that the problem stems from a change Apple has instituted, rather than one all those different email clients made simultaneously.

Both parts of the problem (the display and the inability to do bulk downloads) are annoying, and no, I don't believe my email client is doing anything differently than it did before.

Finally, I just did yet another little test. I sent some photos from the mail app native to my iPhone, and opened the email in the mail app on my Mac (the annoying piece of crop pictured below) and still the problem persisted.

Halliday thank you for your response , I have sent further emails and find that yes I can send as an attachment from gmail to gmail and can send from gmail to outlook and see as an attachment. But that is not a work around for me. We use Outlook to run our business and need to include photos in our messages. It has always worked perfectly well to forward a photo to my email address or to a colleagues email address in one action. I really don’t want to have to perform extra actions to do something that was so simple before. If anyone has a solution for me please let me know

Well, Teggerman. That seems to be a new one!

Certainly Apple Mail doesn’t send its emails as PDFs.

So, I don’t know what the email server at Concur is doing. What email server is running there?

It looks like you’ll need to contact SAP, about this issue, as to why they are converting the email to a PDF, or whatever they are doing.

When you send the email containing the photo of the receipt, to receipts@concur.com, what SMTP server is your Apple Mail set to send its outgoing email to? (Check the settings for that particular email account.)

Try changing the outgoing SMTP server to a Google gmail server, or something else. (Anything besides a Microsoft Exchange server.)

I primarily use my iPhone for work and take over 100 photos a day and email them to various people and clients. Now, all of a sudden, I can't email the photos as jpegs anymore. You need to fix this asap. I thought the IOS update 14.2 would fix the problem, but I was disappointed, once again! I have been receiving several complaints from my clients and other people when they receive the photos embedded in the email. This is unacceptable. Please fix NOW!

You can, most certainly, send JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg) image files, Mystified-OZ. You simply need to make sure your image is in the format you need, before attaching it to an email message, or using any other means of file transfer.

(Even better is to use a more photo or file specific file transfer method, such as Google Photos, or even various forms of DropBox [not truly photo specific, but more file transfer specific].)

You do not need to revert your iOS to do that.

(It doesn’t matter what format the email is created in, nor how the email may be rendered [displayed] in any given email client. All that, apparently, matters in using email for transferring or sharing your photos, is that the attached photos be savable, in bulk, at the receiving end.

Am I wrong about what truly matters in using email for transferring or sharing your photos?)
