ios 14 MASSIVE battery drain

My phone Xs just started losing its charge after the most recent upgrade to iOS 14.3 and I didn't think to look until yesterday about the exposure notifications draining it; but that's what's doing it. And now my battery health has dropped down to 83%.

Health app is draining my battery like crazy in the background. It is making my phone overheat as well. Really frustrating.

You said "after charging all night" but your screenshot shows maybe 15 mins charging in total. I think you may be mistaken about what was happening with your phone at this time.

But this was a few days after the upgrade to iOS 14.4, so it looks like it's the Exposure Notifications app specifically, not the iOS upgrade directly.

I was also seeing battery drain > 50% over a day from Exposure Notifications on iOS 14.0.1 (iPhone SE 2016) - this was never a problem under iOS 13. It only started after I upgraded to iOS 14.

The solution for me was to DISABLE Exposure Notifications (Settings > Exposure Notifications > Turn Off Exposure Notifications), followed by a restart (power off, power on) and then re-enabling Exposure Notifications through the COVID Alert app (I’m in Ontario, Canada).

So far battery life looks to have resumed back to normal. Hope this helps someone.

Why should I have to reset and restore anything? This battery drain thing only started with the latest iOS update. I’m on an iPhone 11 less than a year old. I use my phone all the time. It doesn’t even charge properly when plugged into usb on my laptop. I don’t always have access to a plug socket. Please fix your update Apple! This is getting ridiculous

I just woke to 10% battery after charging all night on my iPhone 12.

Did with mine. Apple told me to close and reopen when I go out. I will probably forget. Too bad.

Iphone 12pro, iOS 14.2.1 and still happening. Running about 24% right now...

Thanks. I will leave it off for now anyway, I have not seen other people besides my wife for months and the cash register lady does not count, it is all too short to log. A non-drained battery is currently healthier for me.

Besides this all I think it is a laugh that Apple did not make sure this could not happen. Prolly due to very poor testing quality.

I reset the watch to factory settings. Restored it from earlier in the same day. Watch works great

iPhone 7v 14.2 has similar problems and drains in 30 mins. NHS app removed, rebooted and reloaded looks promising so far

During all the trying to get round the battery issue and doing the exposure restore on my iPhone I find all my phone contacts have disappeared.
