Apple health not picking up steps from Apple Watch

Since updating to ios 14 yesterday my Apple health isn’t picking up all the steps from my Apple Watch. The correct number of steps is logged in the Apple fitness app. I have tried all the usual checks and even unpaired the Watch this morning. But it’s still not accurate and it’s driving me mad. The move, exercise and stand are there. I am using and iPhone 8 and Apple Watch none cellular series 5. I presume this might be an ios14 glitch but not sure

thanks

Spent an hour on phone with senior tech person. After trying all sorts he suggested I pair my watch with husbands iPhone and download os7 on that, which I did. Then unpaired from his phone and repaired to mine. Os7 was then on my phone. All the complications came back but watch wouldn’t show any increase in steps. So went to bed and left it. As it reset at midnight it started tracking steps. So far all seems good. Like the fact you can now change exercise, stand and move targets. Fingers crossed it’s sorted now

I tried rolling back to 13.7, which worked fine - but then my Watch, which was on 7, wouldn’t work unless I upgraded to iOS 14. So faced with a useless Watch or a buggy system, I gave up in disgust, upgraded back to iOS 14, re-paired my watch again and went to bed. And lo and behold, this morning all was resolved and it’s been fine since. So maybe some combination of something in there fixed it somehow?

I have this too. I have a Pedometer app as well, that I have a face complication for, so I can see steps without needing to go into the activity app. Currently the Pedmeter app is showing 8463, the Activity app on my Watch is showing 6900 and the steps in Health is 8101. How can all three be different when it all relies on the same device?!

I also noticed that my Watch will either log steps or a workout, but not both. I went for a walk this morning and it logged the steps, but the workout only appeared on my Watch, not on the Activity app on my phone or in Health, no matter how times I synced. I went for another walk this afternoon, and this time the workout logged, but not the steps - which I think is why the differences in numbers mentioned has happened.

I think Apple must have done something to the Activity app and its algorithm, because I also noticed my resting calories have dropped by 300 odd, from being totally consistent across the last year. And I suddenly have big differences between Move calories and Active Energy, whereas they were always the same before.

Glad it's not just me. I'm having the exact same problem. In the Activity app on my Watch and in the Fitness app on my phone, step counts and exercise minutes are where I'd expect them to be.

But going into the Health app, it seems only a portion of that data is syncing back. Today, so far my step count is less than half in the Health app as it is compared to what my Watch seems to be registering.

If I go to Health, then Steps, then Data Sources & Access at the bottom, I can click on my Watch to see the data and it matches u with the weirdly low number. Meanwhile, the Step data that my iPhone is recording is more than double what's syncing back to the Health app from my Watch.

It's very weird, because according to the Activity app on my Watch, everything is being captured there. I don't know why only some of the data is syncing. It's happening with active calories, exercise minutes, steps, and even stand hours. Oh yeah, I tracked a walking workout this morning and that didn't sync to the Health app, either. Last workout it shows for me was the pre-update run I did on Wednesday.I guess it's just a bug, but it's a pretty bad one.

FWIW I'm on an iPhone XR and Watch Series 5, running iOS 14.0 and watchOS 7.0, respectively.

Mine has updated to iso 14.2 and the pedometer is still wrong. When I take a walk, I count my steps. My iPhone X, the error rate varies from 5%~20%. I also noticed, if I walk very fast, such as more than 120 steps/minute, the error rate is very high, about 20%. I believe it could be the mechanism issue. I wish Apple would tell us the best walking speed for its pedometer.
