On the new ios14, during a call there is a red dot at the top right hand corner of my screen (not on the call notice on the upper left)

Thanks for asking this. I was wondering as well. What I have learned from your question after sorting through the answers is that
I am not using my mic and my red dot is there still. It only goes away when my call is over. So someone other then me is using my mic. Can I turn something off so they not monitoring my calls?

I do not understand the point of these red, yellow, green dots and whatever other colors that may have out there.

You don't. There is no setting to remove it. The only other option is not to use it as a phone, don't use any phone calls, no FaceTime, do not dictate anything, and whatever else uses the microphone.

No. In the black background, the orange dot appears red. It just means that the microphone is in use, which would be expected in a phone call. Nothing is being recorded.
