With my 4K Apple TV device HDMI plugged into my receiver, all CEC actions fail for all devices. I can plug in my older HD Apple TV and all is happy. Or removing the 4K device resolves the issue as well. I've just updated the 4K to tvOS 14 with same symptoms.
Anyone else experience this? I think the device itself has failed.

Ever since I upgraded to the TVOS 14 my CEC stopped working. Exact same cables exact same tv and nothing. I even checked for a newer update and there was one but yet it still doesn’t work. I am currently on 14.0.2 and it’s been happening ever since I upgraded to 14
This is my exact issue. But I have one Sony tv that’s on Android 8 and one on 9 and the 8 one works perfectly (on and off with Siri remote) even with tvOS 14. So I’m even more perplexed.
Everything works again with tvOS version 14.3

I turn off the CEC on my tv and on my Apple TV I still get the option to have it on and off it doesn’t disable it for me.
Thank you!!! I have the Sony STR-DN1080 amp and XBR tv and it worked fine for years... then it just stopped. I seen this and disabled AirPlay, rebooted the Apple TV and it works again!
What did the trick for me was moving the HDMI cable to a different port in the TV that supports CEC and HDR. The function for Home Theater Control for the Apple TV is automatically turned on.
Ladies and Gentlemen… ITS FIXED!!! Just downloaded and installed the update. Now I can disconnect this thing from WiFi and never update it again.

Yesterday Apple care people had called. they gathered some information. i hope i will see some success soon.
Same problems for me in July 2021. Spent 2 hours on phone with customer support and they couldn’t fix it. Come on Apple! Fix the problem… super disappointing
