iOS 14 ringer volume issues

I have turned off Sleep Mode from the Health App. It’s somewhat buried, but since I turned it off, I no longer have issues with the alerts and ringer.

note: the ringer slider still is showing completely silent at times. But if I manually lock the phone and go back in, the slider moves back. Seems like a UI glitch.

I have solved that issue recently. Initially was facing the similar problem. Go to settings > Face ID & Passcode > Check whether ‘Attention Aware Features’ is enabled or not > If enabled, please disable the feature. This steps brought back my iPhone in normalcy 😁

Turning off attention aware feature stopped the problem at lest for the last week or so. Apple support helped find the issue. Attention Aware is in facial recognition in settings.

Same problem on my wife's iPhone X since upgrading to iOS 14 (and 14.0.1). We factory reset the phone and the problem persisted. We then noticed that her volume went down when her eyes were directed at the screen. This is an intended feature of "Attention Aware" on FaceID. However, when we turned off Attention Aware, all of her sounds seem to work properly again. We are suspecting that Attention Aware is working when it is not supposed to. Might be turning down the volume every time she looks at the phone (even in other apps), thus effectively turning the volume off over time each day. Fingers crossed. Gonna keep Attention Aware turned off and see if the sounds work properly for a few days.

Do you have FaceID? If so try turning off the Attention Aware setting. On my wife’s phone the volume goes down each time she looks at the phone (even when it should not be active). So far has helped.

To “fix” I have turned off Attention Aware functions in Face ID and Passcode as well as turning off Sleep Mode in the Health App. The slide still visually slides to silent on its own, but it’s not actually silent.

14.2 fixed mine too! I had 2 iPhones in 2 weeks and both did it! I took both back and both times I was told it’s impossible for the ringer to move on its own!!!

My old 8 also did it and is now fixed, I’m using it now until I can find a android.

I won’t buy a Apple after being a loyal customer for over 20 years.

Apple is still telling me the ringer can’t move on its own ! The 14.2 update did fix the issue so I guess they don’t know there product!!!

I’ve updated to 14.2 that came out today and haven’t had the issue since then.

I have an iPhone 7 and updating to OS 14.0.2 did not help my universal sound mute. I went into setting, general, reset and chose the first option. It worked like a charm.

The 14.2 fixed mine! I had 2 iPhones in 2 weeks plus my old 8 and all 3 did it! I returned both new phones and went back to my old 8.

The update seemed to fix the ringer issues.. let’s see how long it stays???

I read the update info and it didn’t say anything about ringer/ alerts. I did the 14.2 update and it seemed to fix mine, it’s been 4 days and so far so good.

Just had a thought based on what some people have posted about if you are looking at the phone. Under Face ID -attention aware features it says it will look for attention to lower the volume of ringers and alerts. So I turned this off. Will advise if this bandaids the problem. Ugh
