WatchOS7 update problems

My series 3 completed an auto update overnight to Watch OS7. Today it has shut itself down at least 3 times, locked itself while on my wrist about 4 times, failed to load complications on multiple faces (weather, activity rings, date etc), disconnected from my phone at least twice. It has also dropped to less than 50% battery in about 8 hours, normally it is still in the 80’s. Is anyone else having these issues? This has been the buggiest upgrade I have seen.

Hi everyone, I just dropped off my MacBook Pro for warranty service and asked the "Genius" who was helping me about the

Watch OS7 7.01 Software Problem.... He actually acknowledged the issue and said they were working on a fix for the next Software update release....

So I was unable to get my watch to stop rebooting after os7 update. Could not even wear the dame thing. Seeing that I was still under warranty I took it to apple. The lady I talked to and told her the problem said “this is weird”. They said they would send it out to check it. I just got my replacement in the mail today. And NO I am NOT updating this watch.

My Series 3 just did a random reboot a few minutes ago despite having updated the OS to 7.0.1. Very disheartened to see this random reboot issue has not been fully/adequately addressed. I was getting ready to pay with my Apple Watch at a gas station, and to my dismay I see the white Apple logo indicating the watch is booting up which of course takes 2-3 minutes. Heart Rate and Fitness tracking are OFF and I have few apps installed so there is 3.0 GB available storage space. Please fix this ASAP Apple!

my only way around this issue is turning off fitness and heart rate and not one single 3rd party app. the almighty apple has deemed its time for a new one or else random rebooting is now a part of the ownership of it lol been dealing with this issue since the watch os7 was released. fun times. im on senior advisor number #7 woooooooooooooo!

Today it shut off 6 times and locked every time I looked at it would not hold a charge but about half a day it is worthless now before the update worked fine I wish I had not updated it so I just quit using it as of now it’s worthless so that’s it I don’t have the funds to buy a newer version just lost my job so I prob won’t have to worry about it anyway I guess just another great moment in 2020 greatest year of my life so far yippie

No, I have no idea yet what the fault was. I am getting a callback tomorrow. My guess is that during a major OS update, the phone does some hardware checks and if something isn't 100% perfect then it fails. I've had the watch for a couple of years so some wear and tear may mean it's not running at optimum levels. But I hate it when they do an OS update and suddenly the hardware is more "fussy".

When I updated my iPhone to iOS 12 (I believe), suddenly all my third party charging cables stopped working, only Apple official ones would work. I was so happy when I moved to Qi charging.

"This is history repeating, they did the same with older iPhones once. They want to make you purchase a newer model. "

Ummm....no. That's not what's going on here.

Older iPhones got slower and lost functionality as they were incapable of supporting new features in iOS.

Do you really think they'd purposely cripple an active product line (They still selling S3's).

Mine did it second time today FYI, two reboots an hour apart. And yes, I do think Apple would purposely cripple older devices. You can now choose between SE and a 3. If the rumor is spread 3 are getting reboots, SE will sell better and they can rule Series3 out. According to their online store it’s only $80 more expensive at basic version. Besides, they’ve done it before. They can afford it. But I can’t afford a new watch. And since there is no Genius Bar in my country I have to take it to an authorized dealer who are taking it to Ireland if I want to downgrade. Update that works would be much more suitable. If you’re reading this Apple, please do something and prove me wrong! In the meantime I’ll just wait for another reboot...

As I mentioned in my previous post, I've had the rebooting problem since the WatchOS 7 update and it has continued with the 7.0.1 update. When I'm home with stable WiFi, the watch has never rebooted, not once. It happens when I'm out, away from my house. I've tried just about every suggestion in this thread and the problem persists. I communicated with Apple Support and they had me run diagnostics, which they said did not show a problem.

I had no problem with the original OS 7 installation but I do recall updating the watch before updating the iPhone to IOS 14. In the past I've always done the phone first, then the watch. I'm wondering if doing the updates in this order somehow caused a problem. Any thoughts?

i updated the phone first than the watch. Also have you tried turning off fitness and heart rate with no third party apps? That’s my only solution till they fix this problem . If they don’t I won’t keep any apple products going forward, too frustrating. With 7 advisors it’s a hassle explaining it over and over

My experience is pretty much the same as yours, with perhaps a peculiar difference. When I am at home I never seem to have a problem. To test to see if it has something to do with disconnection from my WiFi when I leave, I went on a 45 minute or so 2 mile walk around my neighborhood. I had no problems with my watch. But just moments ago I drove my car for a 8-10 mile excursion to go to the Post Office and run some other errands. On my way home my watch rebooted and requested my code. But for unexplainable reasons this behavior is not dependably reproducible. Two days ago I drove my other car to a function about 6 miles from my home. I stayed there, connected to a local WiFi at that facility, for about two hours. I drove home. I didn’t have a single reboot or other issue with my watch on that occasion. I can’t help but think that this has something to do with WiFi or perhaps BlueTooth. But why it is inconsistent and not always reproducible is a mystery to me.
