WatchOS7 update problems

My series 3 completed an auto update overnight to Watch OS7. Today it has shut itself down at least 3 times, locked itself while on my wrist about 4 times, failed to load complications on multiple faces (weather, activity rings, date etc), disconnected from my phone at least twice. It has also dropped to less than 50% battery in about 8 hours, normally it is still in the 80’s. Is anyone else having these issues? This has been the buggiest upgrade I have seen.

Hi everyone, I just dropped off my MacBook Pro for warranty service and asked the "Genius" who was helping me about the

Watch OS7 7.01 Software Problem.... He actually acknowledged the issue and said they were working on a fix for the next Software update release....

Had a call with Apple Support. They couldn't even run their diagnostic tool on the watch because of whatever's happening. They took some logs and screencasts and sent them up to engineering. They told me that this has gotten enough attention that they're prioritizing. Maybe more folks should call so they can pull more logging off our devices and continue to keep their eyes on the issue...?

My main complaint is not being to install any 3rd party apps as part of all of this. It's nuts...

My series 3 Apple Watch never spontaneously rebooted until watchOS 7.0 and still occurs after the 7.0.1 update. I tried the unpair - pair my watch ‘fix’ and while better, the problem still occurs.

Today I observed and important clue about all of this.

After walking my dog this morning, I went to shower and placed my watch on the sink face down. The heart rate green LEDs are on. That’s odd since they normally go off when the watch detects it is no longer on my wrist. Waited a minute and the LEDs are still on. Put the watch back and had to unlock it (watch knew it was no longer on my wrist) and had it take my heat rate. When that was done, I took off the watch and the LEDs stayed on for another -5 minutes before finally turning off. I have never observed behavior like this before. If this sort of behavior is occurring while on my wrist, no one would even know it. The brightness of the LEDs tells me they would run through the battery charge rather quickly as it has a small battery. I see a lot people are reporting reduced battery life in addition to the reboot issues.

I also wonder if this could be related to reboot issue too. The Apple Watch is very small package that most likely has some thermal limits. Normal operation has it placed against the human body the can be upwards of 90 degrees. The stuck on LEDs would drive up the temperature even more. What does the Apple Watch do when it’s internal temperature gets too high? I would not necessarily feel this on my wrist due the fiberglass back for the heart rate sensor and I might not be in contact with the metal part of the case at this time (now I might expect this isolation to work both ways, but internal temperature is what matters here). In more than one instance of rebooting, it took a minute or two before I saw the Apple logo appear (I kept hitting the buttons trying to bring it back to life during this time). Could the delay be the watch is simply cooling down enough and then it comes back to life?

One other observation, when the reboot issue started, my local weather was hitting the 80’s and now it is just hitting the 60’s. I am seeing fewer reboots now.

After reading those reports, I’m glad I stayed on watchOS 6. Series 3 GPS here. If Apple doesn’t fix this, I may upgrade to a Series 6 or SE. I regret getting the series 3 instead of the 5. It seems as the problems stem from newer updates being better optimized for newer Apple Watches than older ones. Dropping support for the series 3 doesn’t seem that much worse than introducing a really buggy update for it. If Apple fixes watchOS 7 soon, I might keep my Series 3 for another year, or I might upgrade anyway since it’s noticeably dated, lacking and slower compared to newer watches

I’m also having the Green LED lights staying on long after the watch being off my wrist. I’m having ALL the other issues as well and literally want to loose my mind! The watch is pretty much useless since it’s spends most of its time rebooting and I’m missing texts as a result. I depend on the watch since it’s hard for me to keep my phone physically on me all day. I’m done with the S3 and feel like we deserve a free upgrade to the SE!!! Fix it Apple!!!

At the beginning of this whole dilemma I called Apple every day since the watchOS update and I went through all the troubleshooting several different senior advisors and now after sending diagnostic information my Apple senior advisor had informed me to send the watch out and they’d be covering the flat repair repair cost. Honestly though I feel like I had to put up a good argument in order to get to that and I don’t feel like I should’ve been going through all these hoops in order to get Apple to understand the circumstance that I’m not the only one having this issue and it’s clearly affected series 3 owners.

My main concern at this point is that if they send me back my watch “repaired” or replaced that the issue itself would just happen again.

having a background in this field I would say that the software isn’t compatible with series 3 hardware which brings us to this particular issue of rebooting and performance issues/battery issues. We need as many of you fine people to call in and report this to make it more apparent that their needs some sort of action on apples part to rectify this issue.

I’ll keep you guys posted but as of right now erasing the watch , setting it up as new, 7.0.1 didn’t fix a thing and turning off fitness and heart rate and no third party apps makes NO difference, if anything it restarted even more (3 times in one day).

I hope someone at Apple looks at this and actually does something about it, I don’t feel like this is anything Apple would condone so the fact I feel pressured to have a new one feels sneaky and very dishonest.
