Typing lag in Notes app on iOS 14

I just found a fix that worked for me! Supposedly the custom dictionary in iOS/iPadOS 14 isn’t compatible with the one from previous OS’s, and resetting the keyboard dictionary might reduce or eliminate the keyboard lag problem. I was doubtful at first, but I went ahead and reset my dictionary, and INSTANTLY the lag problem disappeared!

To do this, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

Another potential fix that might work for some of you is force-restarting your device. The steps for doing this is different depending on which iPhone/iPad you’re using, but it usually involves pressing and holding all the buttons on your device at once until the Apple logo appears. It didn’t work for me, but it might work for someone.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max & Notes is lagging so bad it feels like the data is being split & sent out... does anyone know if this latest update is capturing data or sending to the cloud differently?

im facing the same issue with my xs max. i frequently use the notes app and the keyboard is lagging alot its annoying. so far no issue with keyboard on other apps. i tried to reset dictionary for keyboard but it rly did nothing. i even tried restarting my device. i guess its a software issue. should wait till 14.1 😭😔

FIXED !!! Idk if this will work for everyone but my fix was a combination of turning iCloud off for notes as well as restarting my iPhone by holding the power button and the home button .. hope this helps :)

Yes. Severely laggy keyboard. I posted a tweet on it and apple replied telling me to send them a private message. I sure hope they open it because I sent them multiple videos of the lagginess. It is so annoying.

afte IOS 14, typing is a real pain:

1) no response->can’t type fast at all, touching the key like missing the target even space bar or back space;

2) Cap-Lock feature totally lost-> no response on double tap; including end of sentence full stop by d-t on space bar;

3) restart takes longer to get back into proper status; very obvious the missing second hand on the clock and 4xclocks.

It isn’t. Just updated to 14.0.1 but it is still laggy on my girlfriends iPhone X (on my iPhone 11 it seems te be okay).

Resetting her keyboard dictionary helped a tiny bit, but it’s still very unresponsive. I guess we will have to wait for 14.1 then :(

Updated to 14.0.1 today and the lag is HORRIBLE on my 6S! I wish I hadn't bothered. And my only options are to either turn off iCloud for Notes, which will delete hundreds of documents that I access regularly from my phone, or nuke a custom dictionary I've spent years building?? Totally unacceptable.

I use Notes more or less constantly to jot things down, check things off, etc. The lag is minimal in lightweight documents, but makes typing in my larger ones impossible.

I’ve noticed that my typing in notes is lagged. I thought it might just be due to full storage (it’s not), but then it typed normally in safari and everywhere else. It wasn’t happening before I updated to ios14

All of the fixes mentioned seem to help for a short time then the lag appears again. I've read they are working on it but this type of lag has been on ongoing issue for almost every IOS. This is my first time experiencing it though and it *****.

I came to this thread because I searched “iPhone 11 laggy keyboard iOS 14”, lol, so it’s safe to say I’m experiencing the same thing.

I actually feel very good that many other (judging by the responses to this thread) are experiencing the same thing. I say that because surely Apple is now aware of it, and I’m guessing we will see this fixed in the next update or two to iOS 14.

Having this too in Notes and in iMessage with iOS 14. When I start typing in iMessage for example I can type halfway through a sentence and suddenly the text starts showing up on screen. Never did this in iOS 13!

mine’s been like that too. I’ve never had a problem until updating my XR a few days ago, and it’s been extremely frustrating. I’m a frequent writer and my main platform happens to be notes, although this delay has been putting a damper on my performance. hopefully, whatever this is, gets fixed!!

I tried rebooting ipados.. closed all remaining apps as told by support expert... still no use.. still my keyboard lags as you told... i have same problem in my ipad os notes app... it started after ipados 14 upgrade.. before that it was fine

Turing off iCloud notes fixed it for me! Not sure why it was on since I had turned it off and don’t use iCloud. It warns you all notes will be deleted from your phone if you turn off iCloud notes. I don’t use iCloud so there were no notes it deleted.
