Typing lag in Notes app on iOS 14

Same , issue re-appears after I reset keyboard , I even re set my whole phone. I don’t think it’s because of Additional keyboard use

But it needs to stop it’s making me want to get a new phone

Me too! I would be working in google docs, or notes, or sometimes just texting someone and it gets laggy! But now it’s fine, but on certain apps it’s slow!

I have the same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. There is a lag when I start to type in iMessage. It's so annoying. hopefully they'll fix it soon.

afte IOS 14, typing is a real pain:

1) no response->can’t type fast at all, touching the key like missing the target even space bar or back space;

2) Cap-Lock feature totally lost-> no response on double tap; including end of sentence full stop by d-t on space bar;

3) restart takes longer to get back into proper status; very obvious the missing second hand on the clock and 4xclocks.

It isn’t. Just updated to 14.0.1 but it is still laggy on my girlfriends iPhone X (on my iPhone 11 it seems te be okay).

Resetting her keyboard dictionary helped a tiny bit, but it’s still very unresponsive. I guess we will have to wait for 14.1 then :(

Updated to 14.0.1 today and the lag is HORRIBLE on my 6S! I wish I hadn't bothered. And my only options are to either turn off iCloud for Notes, which will delete hundreds of documents that I access regularly from my phone, or nuke a custom dictionary I've spent years building?? Totally unacceptable.

I use Notes more or less constantly to jot things down, check things off, etc. The lag is minimal in lightweight documents, but makes typing in my larger ones impossible.

Turing off iCloud notes fixed it for me! Not sure why it was on since I had turned it off and don’t use iCloud. It warns you all notes will be deleted from your phone if you turn off iCloud notes. I don’t use iCloud so there were no notes it deleted.

OMG SAME!!! I’ll start typing and it’ll freeze on the first two letters. Then all of a sudden it’ll write out the rest. It started happening after I updated my phone (XR). This is why I didn’t want to update it!!! Ughhhhh there’s always something.

Most definitely, this is an issue with syncing with iCloud.

The Notes app on my wife's iPad mini had come to an excruciatingly slow crawl. But she was able to find a work around. She went to Settings>Notes and selected the "On my iPad Account". This created an account of notes that is only stored on the iPad. There was 0 lag on notes made in that folder.

She also enabled an account with Exchange email account. The option there is also found at Settings>Notes>Accounts. No lag for notes in that account either.

Then finally she went to Settings>iCloud>Notes and turned off Sync. It erased the notes on her iPad (while leaving them in iCloud). She then quit the Notes app by double clicking the home button and swiping it up. Reopened it and then reenabled Sync in Settings>iCloud>Notes. When all the notes downloaded there was no longer lag on any notes in the All iCloud folder.

On that last option, I still don't know if it will return to how it was before. Only time will tell.

Hope that helps everyone. I know that these bugs are extremely frustrating when you depend so heavily on a particular app.

I have had the same issue recently, on an iPad Pro. It has been more noticeable following the recent update. I have tried all the suggestions People have written on here. Resetting the keyboard gives temporary relief but the problem keeps coming back. By chance, I noticed the lag disappears if I close the side menu so the open note takes up the whole screen.

From what I have observed, the keyboard lags happened when I was working on a very large Note or Messages.

I also have noticed that my other devices, in which my iCloud account was signed in, was not recognised or couldn’t be found.

I signed it from the other device (laptop) and checked again my iCloud account seeing to it that all my devices were found and synchronised.

After that my keyboard lagged was somehow resolved and never had any keyboard lag anymore. I didn’t do any reset of any kind as some suggested here.

Another thing I’ve noticed, you have to completely ensure that both devices are fully synchronise with your iCloud account. Am not quite sure what does the iCloud account got to do with this.

Btw, as of this writing, 3 of my other friends and family that had had the same symptoms were able to fix their problem with the above workaround.

Same here, its very slow.

It's still slow and laggy after resetting.
