The camera cable is also affected by Flexgate

I have a MBP 13'' 2016 touch bar.

The camera doesn't work, because the camera cable is broken.

The camera cable is the mirror image of the backlight cable, and subject to the same design flaw referred to by many as Flexgate.

Since the Apple service program only applies if there is a stagelight effect, I am not eligible for a free replacement.

Having troubles with the butterfly keyboard as well but that's another story.

2000 USD for a computer with product defects...

(If you are having the same problem, you can verify this by checking System Information -> camera -> “no camera devices detected”. To really nail down the diagnosis you can use a pentalobe screwdriver and take a look inside.)

Hi! And you have a macbook pro from 2016 as well?

I ve had some minor issues with the wifi connection, but not like the one you describe.

Instinctively, I would think that the wifi is a separate issue, since it's not subject to the same wear and tear as the flexcables, but what you say about opening the screen past 30 degrees indicates otherwise.

Have you had a peek inside the machine as well?

My 2017 MacBook Pro‘s FaceTime camera also died right after the two-year warranty experied last fall. Since I found your post I am pretty convinced that I am also a victim of flexgate. Especially now in times of working and particularly studying from home a reliable computer is more important than ever. Normally this is exactly why people choose to buy Apple-products.

It feels really bad to see that Apple is completly ignoring the reports of affected 15“ MacBook Pros, especially because they silently fixed the problem in the 2018 model.

I don’t believe Flexgate is factual and I believe Apple computer would not accept that the key backlight cable is more critical than the Facetime Camera cable.

it rings bells of the recent US election and mistruths being pushed hard despite being untrue.

If Apple accepts the facetime camera cable may be defective perhaps they would suggest a usb camera that would do the job - if one could plug in and do so?

Hi GianMaui,

Yes, I completely agree.

The only thing we could hope for is that the problem and these posts eventually gain attention, but unfortunately I am not too optimistic about that.

At least it is reassuring to see that there are many people experiencing the same issue, supporting the notion that we are not responsible for the camera malfunction, that it is actually a product defect by the company.
