iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

For me, having iMessage on, even when signed out of iMessage results in no audio notifications. So I turned iMessage off completely. If my iPhone is unlocked, I get the audio alert. If locked, I get the alert on my Apple watch. I would prefer to get the audio alert on both but have not figured out how to do that yet. Wifi and bluetooth are both turned on.

While I would prefer iMessage on my phone to be on, this is an acceptable compromise for now. My phone sits in a charging cradle when at my desk, so not locking the phone is not a big deal.

I wish there was some sort of logging tool so that I would know what is actually happening (why is the audio being suppressed when I get a visual alert on my iPhone without the audio?) I've lived the Samsung life for a year. Despite this problem, not going there. Don't need another hobby. This is a complicated problem and systems are interacting in unexpected ways.

I've the same problem, I do not receive notifications from any app, sometimes I receive the notification 10 minutes late, usually never. I've to open the app to see the messages. I've tried all solutions and any nothing works. This is very frustrating and disappointing. I hope that in the next iOS update they will solve this, although it has already been several months and they don't solve it

This is happening with me as well, ever since a new iPad came into my home two weeks ago. Notifications on iPhone, Macbook, and the iPad in question have gone crazy. Sometimes they come, sometimes I see banners, sometimes I get notification alerts, sometimes I get nothing. No rhyme or reason. I have tried removing the iPad from the equation, the problem remains. I've spoken with three support people, two senior techs. The current person and I were on the phone for hours, setting and resetting everything. He ultimately directed me here. I'm slightly horrified that this has been going on for five months without a fix. It's hella annoying.

alyssa ettinger Yes, this is crazy and very frustrating. This is my first iPhone (and the last one I guess) and I have this problem since the first day usign the phone. I also did everything they told me to do, spent hours on the phone, brought the phone twice to physical diagnostic at the store and nothing was fixed. The worst part is that now they are saying that it is a third party issue, I mean, taht the notifications from whatsapp, facebook, etc are not his responsibility. I recently tried to call apple support again and they don't answer me or call me back. My iPhone has only 4 month of use and it is really a nightmare.

I struggled with this particular issue before and it turns out there is not actually a way to receive notifications on both the Apple Watch and iPhone. If the watch is on your wrist and notifications for Messages is set to Mirror iPhone in the Watch app, the notification will come through the watch only. If you turn off Notifications for Messages in the Watch app, you will receive notifications only on your iPhone. But there is no way to get the notification sound on both the iPhone and Apple watch at the same time, which is unfortunate, because it would be helpful to have that option.

The same has happened to me. Running iOS 14.4 & a few days ago stopped getting notifications for WhatsApp, messenger, Facebook & a few other apps. I am getting notifications for some other apps which is why Apple will try to palm it off as a third party issue, but it isn’t. Apple need to sort this out. I haven’t performed any software update on any of the apps in question or an iOS update in the last week, so how can Apple blame anyone but themselves & their operating system. The fact that this problem has been happening for months tells me that Apple don’t know how to fix the issue & are scratching it’s head. If they don’t sort it out soon, it will cost them significantly as consumers will switch to another manufacturer. Very poor & probably wouldn’t have happened on Steve Jobs watch🤬

Hi! I’m not having this issue on my iPhone but a friend of mine does. Since i’m his tech reference (lucky him 😂) I started investigating and no luck with any troubleshooting so.. I decided to reset all the settings of network connections from the configuration menu option

Settings/General/Reset/Reset all network connections

It fixed it partially but at least it’s something

Bear in mind that you will have to re enter all the wifi passwords again I believe
