iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

I've also been fighting this notification issue for months on my iPhone 11 Pro. Apple no help. I discovered that turning off bluetooth on my phone fixed the problem (allowed text notifications to sound and appear, whether the phone was locked or not). But with bluetooth on, notifications only sounded & appeared with the phone unlocked. Obviously, I didn't want to leave bluetooth off all the time.

I also came to realize this issue started when I got a new Apple Watch 6 a few months ago. Coincidence? Taking the watch on and off didn't help. And with the watch on, it didn't sound notifications either.

But the posting from StubbornPixie got me thinking about killing the mirror function on the watch for the Messages app. So, iPhone Watch app>Messages>"Custom" "Notifications Off" seems to have SOLVED THE PROBLEM for me. My iPhone 11 Pro now notifies me of incoming text messages with bluetooth on. I realize my watch won't ping with messages until Apple fixes the root problem, but at least I won't be missing message notifications altogether.

Hope this helps others.

I think the point here is that if notifications were working as they should, we wouldn't have to fall back to a "read" notification feature to solve it. And this only works if both parties are using iPhones, not for SMS. It would be good enough if the phone indicated that the message has arrived when it is sent, but that is not working. In my case it is working randomly with no consistency that I can discern.

I am losing my mind over this issue. I keep missing important texts because I have received no notifications of any kind and when I go to my messages, they are all "read" so it doesn't show me anything new at all. There are no red bubbles on the app either. I have reset my phone multiple times, checked all of my notification settings, and nothing has worked. PLEASE ADVISE

While I appreciate people sharing solutions that allow them to get alerts, workarounds that turn off other features like Bluetooth or removing the ability to get messages across devices is not a solution in my mind. These devices are meant to work together and Apple has a massive issue with the latest software updates that is preventing integration of iOS features across devices.

Given this integration is one of the key reasons a lot of people use Apple products, the underlying issue needs to be solved.

I stay subscribed to notifications on this board in case those that have more recently contacted Apple are aware of a solve to THIS issue (not an issue of improper settings).

Increasingly frustrated that this issue is not being addressed! I thought it was my XR, so I upgraded to the iPhone 12 mini. The problem is even worse! Even though I've reset my settings, turned off iMessage on my Mac, and have tried every recommended trick available. I'm not getting notifications for new texts, and there are even texts that were only sent to my computer not my phone (despite my phone having the "receive messages at" option as my phone number). As mentioned, I've tried disabling iMessage from all devices other than my phone (although this is a ridiculous "fix" because it shouldn't be a problem to connect devices).

I don't know what to do anymore. It's been months of this same issue. It's the first time I've ever considered switching to a Google phone.

I got a new iPhone 12 Pro two or three weeks aqgo. I just hit my first "On Call" shift where alerts from my company's monitoring system, sent via email based text messages, are not hitting my new phone. The phone is running 14.4. I am not rec'g messages from one automated sender only - that I know about. Murphy's Law -that sender represents the "Critical" alert that I must respond to. I had to have someone cover my on call shift while I work out he problem with Verizon and Apple.

Verizon thinks its the phone, and they are sending me a replacement phone - should receive it tomorrow. Not too psyched about giving up a $1000 new iphone for for a refurbished one, but if it fixes the issue... Does anyone know if this issue is in the phone itself? My impression is it in with the carrier - I think its a transmission or possibly a cipher issue in the Verizon stack, but I cannot get anyone at Verizon to get the correct people involved. They want me to wait until I get the new phone and see if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't, can I get Verizon to revert me to my old iPhone 7, or more desired - have them switch it for a comparable Android phone? I really don't care which phone I use, just needs to be reliable.

I agree it’s a software issue, however there’s got to be some other factor involved. None of my family or friends is having this issue but it’s clear from this forum a lot of people are. I just wonder if the percentage is too small for Apple to take seriously

i noticed something else I wonder if it is related. Sometimes when I lock my phone it doesn’t make the “lock sound”. Usually if I unlock it and relock it does make the sound. I wonder if the lack of notifications has any correlation to it not making a sound when I lock it. I’ve also had other random volume control issues - namely if I turn the volume down using the side buttons in a game, when I return to the Home Screen I am unable to adjust the ringer volume until I force quit the other app - otherwise the buttons adjust the sound volume instead of the ringer. Could all be related.

Still happens for me on iOS 14.4. It appears to only affect sms verification codes. It feels like this is because iOS usually silences these to give you the ability to autocomplete web forms. However, when not using my phone, I should still get a notification on my phone and watch. Currently nothing... the screen doesn’t even light up. Tap the screen and there it is.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't work for me. I've set:

Show Previews: Always under both "Notifications" and "Messages"

Alerts: Lock Screen and Banners

I've also verified my sound and vibration settings are all on

If my phone is "dark" I get no notification but do get a buzz on my Watch, or a notification on my MacBook. If I tap my phone's screen to wake it up, I can see the message preview there, but I had no idea it came in. If my phone is unlocked and I'm looking at I WILL get a notification and text alert...but not when it's locked and not in use. So. Annoying. I really only like wearing my Watch to track exercise, but now I'm wearing it constantly for this sole reason...perhaps that was Apple's plan all along ;-)
