iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

ok this is the solution works 100% , it seems to me that people who upgraded their phone had this issue and it has to do with i cloud system and how it works after 3 months of searching i found out this solution .

Follow these steps :

1- remove instagram from your old phone (that has the same icloud account )

2- remove instagram from the currnet used phone too

3-go to the settings on (your currnet used phone or the new one) and press on your i cloud id

4-wait for the list to load it ll show all the devices you have linked to your i cloud account

5-press on you old phone and hit remove and press yes and then wait for it to be deleted

6-restart your (new phone)

7-install instagram again and sign in

8-press allow for notification

9-upload anything and like it from another phone and u will start getting the notification back

This is ridiculous. I have this issue on my iPhone 12Pro max, had it on my iPhone 11 before upgrade. My husband is having the issue on his phone and both my neighbors are having the same issue. This is definitely a Apple IOS 14 issue as it started after each of us upgraded and yet Apple is not addressing the situation. Incredibly frustrating that this has been going on for so long and no fix on a key feature of a smart phone.

If you were receiving audible alerts on both you either used a kludge to make that happen or something was wrong with either your Watch/iPhone or both. I started with the 1st Generation Watch and the whole intent was to direct notifications solely to your Watch where you could glance at them. People around you don't want to hear multiple beeping when you get a message.

SOLUTION FOUND! 😀

I too had this problem. I’m sure, if you’re reading this, you also own an Apple Watch, yes?

You may have found your iPhone notifications worked fine, then it didn’t. This depended if your phone was connected to your Watch or not at the time.

It’s not a software or firmware issue — just poor placement of a button within the WatchApp menu.

I’ll assume you wish to receive notifications to your iPhone instead of to your Watch.

For ‘Messages’, go to your WatchApp on your phone.

WatchApp>>Notifications>>Messages>>hit ‘Custom’ and select ‘Notifications Off’ then, for WhatsApp, hit ‘Back’ one step and scroll down to WhatsApp and slide green button off. Ta daaa!

Why is it that Message ‘Notifications Off’ is sitting behind ‘Custom’ menu? Why not a green slide bar like the App notifications below it? 🤔

I sent a email to Tim Cook and a female from executive relations called me. They did a test on my phone and they say that, “ it is Apple‘s position that it is a carrier issue.” I said how can I be a carrier issue when it is happening all over the world. She didn’t answer me.

My advice to everyone is to email Tim Cook and demand a resolution. ***@apple.com

Side Note: The portion of the chat text I copied makes It sound like I was a total butthole to the chat advisor. The first thing I said when we started the chat was, "Please understand this vitriol is not directed at you personally." I told them I appreciated their time and I didn't need any further support, I just wanted it in the case notes. Gave them a good CSAT score. I promise I'm not mean. :)

As someone who spent 20 years in a customer-facing position in retail, I can tell you that, even if you told them it wasn't them you were mad at, you added a lot of stress to their already stressful day. You could have gotten the facts in the case notes without the vitriol.

Hey, guys — a tech fixed this for me today!!! I let him screen-share on my iPhone, and this is what he did:

1) Go to Settings.

2) Go to Sounds & Haptics

3) Toggle "Change with Buttons" to OFF.

4) Exit Sounds & Haptics, exit Settings.

And now my text notification sound works again, and so does my phone ringer, which had not been working either. A miracle!!

P.S. Given the mysterious ways of Apple, I have no idea if this will work for the rest of you, but it's worth a try, especially since it's so easy to do.

Let us know how it goes, especially regaridng teh sound level of alerts and notifications on your phone with that setting. In my case, I had to select "Change sound with buttons" to reduce all kinds of craziness with uber-loud alerts and alarms. I still have trouble with that even with the "Change with buttons" selected, but it doesn't seem as bad.

It seems that Apple has introduced an anourmous amount of confusion and frustration wtih the "haptics" features of the iPhone.

It's been several days now, and both the ringer and the notifications are working perfectly. They don't seem too loud to me.

For those whose "Change with Buttons" option is already toggled off and are still not hearing notifications, try toggling that button to "On" and then "Off" again. Then shut down your phone for 5 minutes and open it again. I'm not sure that'll work, but it's worth a try.

I have an iPhone XR and also have had notification issues. The full situation as I best recall: Send an SMS message to a friend (who is on Android). Use the side button to lock the phone while still in the Messages app. While the phone is asleep, the person would send a text. Later, unlock the phone, and slide up the lock screen, which returns me to Messages with that person's texts. At that point in the app, I hear the text notification sound/vibration and would see the message appear on the screen and push up the previous messages. No notification ever appeared on the lock screen, nor was there a sound notification before opening the app. I have seen this for sure on SMS messages, but I'm not sure if this has also happened with iMessages. This doesn't happen consistently, and I'm not sure about the time between putting the phone to sleep and unlocking it again. I'm also not sure if this has happened since iOS 14.5.1, or the specific point release when it did occur.
