iOS 14 text notification issues

I am not getting sound notifications on text messages nor is the banner showing up on my locked screen. I have an iPhone 11 and just downloaded the latest iOS 14. Have reset my phone twice now. Please advise. Thank you.

Like many on here I had been having many of the same issues, missing all sorts of notifications, not just text since upgrading to ios 14 (first 14.1 then 14.2). Here is what fixed my issue... I went to settings->notifications->messages (for this example) and scrolled down to the options section. For the show previews section the "when unlocked (default)" was selected, meaning only notifications would only appear when the phone is unlocked when is hardly ever the case. I switched it always and the issue is now gone. I had to go into may other apps one by one and toggle this option back to always. Showing previews only when unlocked was 100% not my setting before this update.

What is interesting/****** me off is my wife just upgraded to ios14 and did not have issue. I went into her phone to settings->notifications->messages and for her show previews option was selected as "always (default)". Why on her phone she has options listed as "always (default)" and on my is "always" and "when unlocked (default)" I have no clue.

Thanks Apple!

This happened to me because I set my time forward, while my time was set forward I would get messages that the phone thought was on that date. If you set your time back then you some how cause notifications for anyone you texted “in the future” to be turned off. You need to delete a conversation with someone that you texted “in the future” in order to see their texts. This was my fix, hope this helps.

I Phone 11

I am not able to receive text messages while in my car. I have checked my settings and DND is turned off, DND while driving is set to manual. The phone works fine, no problem. In checking my phone, while in the car, even on the phone itself, the ringtone is out. As soon as I turn off the car, the text ringer goes back on.

I pre-ordered the iphone12 mini and have had this issue the entire time with this phone. Most one-time texts like verification codes are the main ones I don't get notifications for. Then it's just sporadic and indiscriminate which texts from my contacts don't come in. Never relates to driving, if the person is pinned, etc. My mom also just got an iphone 12 mini and has been having this issue. I had a practice of waiting on any ios updates for these buggy reasons, but this thread was started 7 months ago. This is ridiculous.

Saw a review from another page,

"For me, it happens when I exit the messages app with a conversation/thread still open. I think when you exit the app, iOS doesn’t recognize it and it’s as if you still have the app on the screen. Thus, no notifications and the ‘read’ status on the other person’s side.

Until a fix, I just make sure to exit a thread before exiting the app."

I have the same issue with multiple message apps, such as WeChat, Messengers, Whatsapp, Instagram, Gmail, and so on. I personally don't use iMessage. I contacted Apple and the specialist said that it is the app's issue, not Apple's. It doesn't make any sense if it happens to multiple apps.

Anyone with a solution please hit me up!!!!

I have tried all the workarounds listed here. I have even done complete wipes and restored from MacBook backups, reset all settings etc.

Problem still persists.

iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 14.5.

The only thing that does work for me is turning Bluetooth off.

I have to make a choice between Bluetooth connectivity and being notified of incoming messages.

The UK COVID exposure app relies on Bluetooth handshakes so this lack of basic functionality could, in theory, endanger lives.

This is a major annoyance to me and many other people, but there are others worse off from reading the entire 92 pages of this thread, ie a blind person who relies on audible alerts, frontline workers with time sensitive issues to deal with etc.

Needless to say, I am very frustrated.

The hours I have put in trying to solve an issue which should not be on our shoulders.

Same here. As this occurs only on non-apple-apps on my iPhone, German support advised me to contact the app manufacturers. As if I have not done that...

It's really sad that a premium manufacturer, who's premium pricing once guaranteed groundbreaking usability and UX-design, hasn't found a solution to this kind of problem yet. If turning off the BT-adapter is the only solution: sorry guys, that's not even an option if apple "reinstalls" the headphone-jack. ;)

I'm on an iPhone with IOS 14.3 and got into trouble when I upgraded from IOS 13 to IOS 14.

A lot of app didn't show any notifications at all including WhatsApp, Spike,...

None of the suggestions proposed here and elsewhere resolved my problem, the only thing I didn't try was a setup of my phone as a new phone.

What does work for me is deleting apps completely (including data stored on the phone) and installing as a new app. A kind of a different approach on setup as new phone.

I applied this only to apps with a backup option outside the typical iTunes/iCloud backup such as WhatsApp or apps supporting Gmail. After a fresh install all these apps are now happily providing notifications again. Eufy security that sends notifications from camera’s also got fixed this way.

For apps without the backup feature, I’ll wait for Apple to come up with a fix, if ever. This way I have fixed most apps for which I needed notifications most urgently.

Hope this may help some of you.
