Apple Watch series 3

I bought an Apple Watch Series 3 from a pawn shop last year as a gift for my daughter. By the time I opened it and gave it to her I realized it had a password. They told me since it was outside of the 30 days that there was nothing they could do an to contact Apple. When I contacted someone from Apple they told me to take it back to the pawn shop and see if they would contact the original owner. I took it back and was told they couldn’t contact the person, they claimed the number was no longer valid.

Is there anything I can do to get it to work or is it basically worthless and just throw it away?
