Why is 1TB of storage being used for health app?
Why does it say that my health app is taking up 1TB of storage? Is this a bug for iOS 14?

not only did I have an with the 1.6tb of health data, I also didn’t have a current back up on my Apple Watch to back up new one too. Turned off health data, did a back up, turned it back on n did a back up. Restored content/settings. Cleared the health data storage and was able to pair my new Apple Watch with current data. Job done!
To follow up on Shaft80 and Shawy’s posts... I just completed the steps in Shawy’s link (in a nutshell: unpair watch, run iPhone backup, erase iPhone, restore iPhone from backup) and it MAY have worked. I’m currently not showing the 1.61TB of Health data in my iPhone storage BUT, if you open the Health app, it looks like it’s still loading my Health data, so we’ll see. I’ll let this continue restoring/reinstalling everything overnight and report back in the morning. 🤞
(My watch is still unpaired and I’m going to wait to re-pair it until I can confirm that the restored iPhone alone is working as expected without the TB of Heath junk.)
I also chatted with Apple Support before this just to add my ticket to the (hopefully long) list of people experiencing this problem. Here’s hoping they figure out a fix before thousands of people try setting up their new iPhone 12s from backups that haven’t run for awhile.
I did not run into any issues backing up my phone to iCloud. The total data used was 50GB for my phone. While it showed 1.61TB it was not actually filling the file system to the max.
Note I do have 2TB iCloud space. Not sure if that helped.
I doubt Apple would give any response to e-mail. I am fortunate in that I live 2 mile (3 km) from an Apple Store, but even the technicians in the store are not well skilled in issues such as this. So my only practical choice was to reach out by phone.
The 1.61TB (or any amount indicated) is clearly erroneous. This is why, in my comments, I question what's even being written. Because I have the ability to at least purchase that much storage, I can at least try whereas for larger amounts that's obviously not possible. If the "backup" I end up making turns out to be garbage, at least that way I will know... while I wait for a viable solution.
I've posted a couple times earlier in this thread, last week, but am posting an update on my situation here.
I am using iTunes on a Windows 10 laptop (8th gen Intel i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SDD and 2TB HDD) and have been trying to back up an iPhone 11 Pro 512GB model, that has 272GB taken up (240GB free). The Health app on my iPhone reports 1.61TB. This past Monday I bought a brand new 5TB portable hard drive and configured my Laptop to back up to this drive. It took nearly 24 HOURS to perform the backup, and now that it's complete, the files occupy 1.64TB on that drive (the actual file space itself, not the total space in occupied tracks/sectors)... there is no way I can reasonably expect to be able to perform a restore back to my iPhone with that much storage taken up. I have no confidence this is a legit backup and in my view, Apple owes us a legitimate and expeditious solution to this problem.
IOS 14.2 totally fixes it.
Guess it was all about a syncing issue between the watch and the phone. Glad they fixed it.
I deleted all my health data beforehand, so don’t know if that is an issue. But I have a different one, my watch is recording activity data, and shows it but my health app on iPhone is not showing any
Hi Shawy07875 - did you get a call back today? If so, how did it go?
Fingers crossed shaft80, it is a pain. I’ve just tried backing up on my Mac, and the ‘back up to Mac’ is greyed out I can’t even select it!
Hi Lawrence, thanks for that. I have spoken to Apple again and they have confirmed it is an iOS 14 issue, but need to wait for further advice or update.
Ok good to know. I'm on with apple support right now to report the issue. Is your Fitness app recording your workouts?
I also did file a bug report
Yes - no problems besides backing up

Any solution's yet??? APPLE WE NEED A SOLUTION
Apple is not here in this user-to-user forum. Use the Contact Support link at the top of this page to get assistance from Apple.
I updated to 14.2 GM and it's now fixed!
