iPhone Fitness app and Apple Watch Activity app not syncing

Ever since I updated my iphone to ios 14 activity app isn't working properly.

Indoor walk gets recorded in the watch but does not show up in the activity app, outdoor walk workouts are missing, route track map does not appear any more. I tried restarting phone and watch and even unpaired and paired the watch again but no luck.

Does anyone else has similar issues?

Looks like there are lots of bugs in activity app in ios14

I too had this same issue.

I've been working with Apple Support and engineering to fix this, well my problem at least.

I'm happy to say that all is fixed for me, my maps, awards, move streaks are all there and showing.

To start, make sure your data is really there. Look in your health app on the phone.

go to Workouts then scroll all the way down to Show all workout Routes

Tap that and see if the data is really there.

If it is here are the steps that Apple gave me to follow and it worked.

This involves wiping the watch and the phone.

You must use the iCloud back up

  1. Make sure that under iCloud, you have toggle on Health Settings>your name>iCloud>Health>make sure this is toggle on
  2. UnPair your watch from the phone (Watch>All Watches>Your watch tap the !> then tap unpair Apple Watch
  3. Perform an iCloud backup Settings>your name>iCloud>Backup>Tap back up now
  4. In the health app, tap your picture bubble on the top right, scroll down to the very bottom and make sure that the data has been back up. It this does not show the correct date, do nothing else as it will fail and your data will not be correct.
  5. iPhone>Settings>General>Rest>Erase all contents and settings
  6. Restore iPhone from iCloud backup
  7. Repair your watch to the iPhone
  8. Restore Watch from iCloud back up

This is what I was told to do and it worked.

Proceed at your own risk.

Mine only seems to be affected during outdoor activities (run/walk). Indoor activities (boxing/treadmill walk or run) sync just fine.

Sync of outdoor activities only takes place after phone is plugged into a power source and then I receive a message that a new apple watch has been connected to my apple ID. Maps never sync, only activity stats.

So update after trying a workout:

  • this seems to work now, all data got synced including the map
  • all older map data - up to the date of the (unsuccessful reset/pairing) magically appeared as well

But:

  • all map data pre-iOS14 update are gone and I assume lost forever

So the functionality is back - my older workouts are collateral damage as it seems.

I’ve still to try updating from 14.2, but im hearing of people still not getting their old workout maps back. The syncing issues have been fixed for me already with the prior OS to 14.2, but i still have environmental sound levels, calories, stand hours partially missing from the health app graphs.

Now, what I don’t understand is that, if this data is gone forever, including the GPS workout maps, how on earth was this data lost ? Did the bug just remove certain parts of the data for it to never be restored again. Thats a pretty serious bug, so serious it shouldn’t even be a thing. I mean, how on earth can health data randomly just vanish, despite me having backed up every day for the last 5 years to the cloud? SURELY this data has got to be in the cloud somewhere? I even backed up my health data to my macbook before all this mess happened, so if apple are saying, woops, we essentially just deleted your data by accident, that is a major major error on apples behalf. And if it can happen to health data, what else can it happen to? Decades of Photos? Music? Anything else stored in the cloud? Data is supposed to be safe and secure in the cloud, especially in a cloud service like apple, the fact that i now know that my data can one day just randomly disappear, without any fault of mines, is mind boggling.

Has anyone got a fix to this? Realised this issue a while ago but just assumed that apple would've fixed this by now...

Watch tracks all the activity, but half/some activities don't show up on the phone.

More specifically, all my 'outdoor walks' show up on both phone and watch (although map doesn't work and just shows a still pin). However, my HIIT classes, outdoor cycling etc all don't show up on the phone and health app...

Literally did a HIIT today and here are some photos depicting the issue:

Mine is now working again.

To get it to work I backed up my iPhone to the cloud. Backed up the watch to the cloud when removing it from phone. Then backed up phone again to cloud.

finally reset iPhone.

then restored both the phone and then the watch from cloud backup. Lost nothing and it now works.

this is the 3rd time I’ve had to do it since owning the new iwatch and having ios14.

Apple need to sort it out. Terrible service.

Mine was working fine with iOS 14 but stopped syncing with my watch when I updated to iOS 14.2 yesterday afternoon! I tried all of the different steps I saw online including unpairing and repairing my watch to my phone and that seemed to only make it worse. I haven’t been able to update my watch because every time I go into the watch app and click general to update it freezes. I’m really mad because I’ve been doing really well with making sure I get the activity badges, but since this happened it hasn’t been recording my progress at all!

I also went to the Apple store and I couldn’t get the guy to understand what was wrong. At one point he got snarky (I’m 65) and said that I probably wasn’t walking briskly which would be 9.5 mph. Both my husband and I corrected him to 3.5 mph, which I go above and he argued about it. The average running speed for men is 9.15 mph and women 10.4. Idiot.

Something that also annoys me is they don’t take height into the equation. I’m 5’2” and I promise you, a woman that’s 5’9” is going to have an easier time walking 3.5 mph than I will due to stride.

So no, I don’t think Apple is taking this seriously. I wonder if they even read this.
