Messages not staying pinned in iOS 14 on iPhone

I am on IOS 14.1 and am still having issues with a group message staying pinned. Have tried everything. When you press on the message it says it’s pinned. My guess is the non-Apple devises in the group have something to do with it.......

I saw that it wasn’t listen so fingers crossed. Since I update I’ve had my 9 conversations pinned from both iPhone and Android users and it is still there like 14 hours later which is the longest they have ever stayed out for me.

Mine was staying pinned until last night. I updated my phone, still won’t stay pinned. It’s a group chat, and when I hold down the convo, it still says “unpin” and even when I click that, and try again, it won’t unpin either for me to pin it back.

I love the feature; I have 3 group messages and 5 individual ones pinned. One of the group messages (the same one) keeps disappearing. My phone is an iPhone XS Max and the software is at iOS 14.1. This update did not help with my issue.

Same thing. The thread which is still listed as “pinned” even though it isn’t, will re-pin itself if I delete another message. And for me it does seem to be the group pins that are mixed Android/IPhone users. Hopefully the next update will include a fix for this bug because I really love having my most commonly used texts pinned to the top.

Maybe it has something to do with iPhones and Androids. I have the same problem but it seems like I only have that problem because the other user is an Android user. Apple needs to fix that not everyone has an iPhone.

This literally just started happening to me just earlier. I love this feature! Makes things easier when texting so I don’t have to go through tons of messages to get to that on person.

Any recommendations? How many can be pinned at one time?

In theory nine groups can be pinned at once, but many people have found that nine groups do not all remain pinned. In iOs 14.1 if I deleted one message thread (from anyone, pinned or not) the missing pinned groups would reappear. In 14.2 that is no longer the case--they disappear and must be re-added manually, only to disappear again. The disappearing issue seems to apply to groups larger than 2 people, with a mix of Android and Apple users. A group of two made of an Android and an Apple user appears to be stable, as do individual Android users, as do groups of 2 Apple users. I don't have any larger groups of all Apple users so I can't speak to that. And reading above, there is no consistency about which pinned groups get dropped.

It is frustrating--Apple introduced a great feature, but it doesn't really work...

So this has been happening on my iPhone 11 Pro and my iPad Pro. Last night I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Big Sur which allows the pinning of messages. They do not disappear on the MacBook Pro. When my one message between 6 people (and one of them is an Android user) constantly disappears, it is only in iOS, not Big Sur.

I have updated to iOS 14.2 and Big Sur on my MacBook pro. All my pinned messages stay pinned on Big Sur which is great. And at first iOS 14.2 seemed to be working great, all of them staying pinned. But now for the last couple of days, the one pinned group message with an Android user has started to disappear again. Before I could just delete a random text, like ones you get with security codes, and the disappearing pinned group would come back. Now that doesn't work. I have to edit pins and pin it again several times a day.

I had better luck with the pinned messages that disappeared returning if I deleted a conversation prior to the 14.2 update. Since the 14.2 update, the last two group pins will not stay and will not come back unless I repin them and then they disappear again. They really need to get this fixed. It’s a nice feature that I like, but it’s annoying if I can’t keep them all pinned.

My solution: I have surrendered to the problem by no longer even trying to pin mixed groups made of four or five android and Apple users. The mixed group of my son and daughter-in-law, one Apple and one android, does stay pinned, as does my husband, android. Anyway It was too annoying constantly having to re-pin, and a fruitless effort.

I have 14.2 and it does it. Exactly as you described--the exact same group message every time. The one thing I noticed was that this is the only pinned message that I have that has non-apple phones in the group?

I realize that Apple and Android are competitors and I understand why Apple may not LIKE Android, but why does Apple have to take that out on all of US--the iPhone customers that have made Apple who they are today (financially speaking). We can't help it if some of our contacts are not perfect and don't use Apple. But Apple refuses to play ball with Android users.

This is happening to me. I have IOS 14.2

I have 9 messages pinned, 2 group messages and 7 individuals. Every time I close my Messaging app and reopen it back up, one of the group messages is unpinned! It's always the same one. Sometimes when I go to add it back in, when I click "Done" it will disappear again. I reset my phone, which did not help. It just started happening now and I have had ios 14.2 for a little while now.
