Watch Haptic wake up using Sleep feature

I am trying the new sleep app in WatchOS 7 on my Apple Watch and have it set for haptic alarm but my phone wakes me up with wave sounds in the morning not my watch. How do I stop my phone from being the alarm and just have me receive haptic notifications on my watch to wake me up?

Hi Drjb1001, I had the same issue. Problem was that I was putting iPhone into Air Plane mode in the evening just before going to sleep, when I did not do this, I was woke up only by Watch tapping my wrist.

I figured that my iPhone in Air Plane mode had no way of knowing if I'm actually sleeping with watch on my wrist or not - just a theory, seems logic.

Any chance you have same habit?

I seem to be having the same or a similar problem.

I've noticed that the watch does vibrate but only very faintly in sort of coughs and splutters.

If watch is on silent mode this means the alarm often doesn't wake me as vibration is too faint and sound never goes off on the phone.

If watch isn't in silent mode i will usually only notice the sound from the phone and not the vibration.

It did all work when i first got the watch ( watch se), so maybe it has been caused by an os update.

Also tried factory reset of watch as adviced by tech support but this made no difference.

Setting a normal alarm from my watch instead of using the sleep funtion has been my work around, i.e. not using the sleep app.

This seems to vibrate on the watch properly (enough to wake me) without making a sound if the watch is on silent mode.

I've also had to set the time of this alarm using siri as the touch interace didn't work chosing the time of alarm on the watch directly.

So a few bugs seem to be affecting my setup anyway.

I'm hoping it get's fixed as i quite liked the effect of vibration turning into sounds if i didn't wake ( when it used to work.)

Drjb1001,

In a situation like this try restarting your Apple Watch and then erasing it. These articles will provide you with steps on how to restart and then erase your Apple Watch:

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Once you have erased your Apple Watch try pairing it again and seeing if you are able to feel the Haptic Touch. If the issue persists you may need to contact Apple Support for additional assistance.

Hello Drjb1001,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your post that you would like to turn off the sound from your iPhone and only have haptic taps on your Apple Watch. On your iPhone open the Health app. Then tap Browse and then Sleep.

Next tap, Full Schedule and Options. Tap Edit under the Full Schedule. Scroll down to Sounds and Haptics. Then slide the volume slider to the far left. This will turn the volume off for the sound assigned.

Best Regards.
