Apple TV 3rd gen YouTube freezes when pausing video
After an update YouTube freezes when I pause video. The menu doesn't pop up and I need to restart the app every time.
I did reset the device and it didn’t help.

Here is a workaround as provided by BMfromV:
1. Download the old version of the firmware. For me it was the version from 24th March 2020 (I took it from https://ipsw.me/product/AppleTV). Be careful in choosing your version of Apple TV!
2. Connect the Apple TV to the computer via a micro-usb cable.
3. Restore the downloaded firmware (for more details https://www.imyfone.com/apple-tv/downgrade-apple-tv/).
4. Disconnect from computer and connect to TV.
5. All data is lost and you need to configure everything from the beginning
What a wonderful Christmas gift from Apple !
I never realized what joy would come from pausing and re-starting a YouTube video.
As Joni Mitchell taught us: "Don't it always seem to go, That you don't know what you've got, Till it's gone."
I have turned off Automatic Updates. Sticking with 7.6.2 No more fixing what ain't broke.
Hey everyone! I had the same problem, too! Well my AppleTV JUST updated and the new update has fixed the problem! I can now pause YouTube videos and unpause them, without crashing the AppleTV. Yay. Give it a go!

Thanks much for the quick response. I do have update 7.6.2 installed. My Apple TV is a version 3.2 model A1469
I first encountered this issue two days ago when streaming You Tube video on Apple Ipad 2 with IOS 14.3, which needs an update.
My Iphone was updated last night with IOS 14.3 and I just tried streaming to Apple TV device and video did not hang up.
So, hopefully Apple TV 7.6.2 is going to work with an Ipad update. Fingers crossed. Thanks for reply.
Now after many months and many peoples' diligent efforts and creative solutions, together with Apple's finally releasing software update 7.6.2 which fixes the broken YouTube app (i.e., the "hang on pause problem"), we are being told that the YouTube app will be permanently removed from the Gen.3 device as of sometime in March 2021.
This practice of app removal following a successful software version bug fix on the part of the Apple Corporation is abhorrable. Three questions come to mind:
1) Can one still prevent the YouTube app removal by down-grading the firmware and preventing automatic updates, as previously discussed in thread?
2) Is Apple now so thoughtless and careless so as not to care any more about backward compatibility and the quality of customer loyalty, but instead only about quantity of new product adoptions and new member signups?
3) Does anyone want to write up simple instructions for setting up alternatives like Kodi on the Raspberry Pi, in a safe manner without incurring any costs for, e.g., a vpn service?
I have the same problem. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video work fine, though. This problem is really annoying! I haven't found anything about this on YouTube either.
At this point the only workaround is to downgrade to version 7.5. The steps are provided here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251805180?answerId=253489260022
My recommendation is that all those who have the same problem write a report in this link, so that Apple hear us.

Please do the following in this order:
Shame!
I had done all the above but it didn’t seem to work
You couldn't have in less than 3 minutes! Please do the steps outlined in my previous post. This will take at least 10-15 minutes as it takes time for the each component to restart.
Yeah, it did not help
Hey, this is the real solution for this bug?
I tried it too. And didnt work =/
Been having the exact same issue with the 7.6 update. Spoke to apple support, they said they'll make a note to engineering and get back to me. Will update when I hear anything back.
