Apple Music widget not updating

In your settings make sure “Use Listening History” is turned on

I have the exact same issue. The widget for Apple Music shows some playlist I listened to only once and when I click on the widget music app it will always take me to that playlist no matter what. My music widget never updates even after deleting it and everything. I hope they fix it soon

Having the same issue but found a little workaround. If the autoplay icon (the infinity symbol) is turned on, it somehow updates the widget. Play the song from the individual album -> toggle the autoplay 'on' ->the widget should update. It somehow doesn't work if you play the song from the song list in your library 🤦‍♀️, but works with playlists in 'Listen Now' on Apple Music.

Not a complete solution but if looking at the wrong widget bothers you this might help :)

Yeah my icon is still the same and hasn’t changed. I just stopped using widgets because Apple isn’t bothering to fix it.

Hello, exactly the same here, the music widget doesn’t show what I’m listening nor the last album or playlist I listened or added, but always one of my albums in library (and still the same one).

I’ve had this same issue, and have also noted that even when the widget face does update (usually after I’ve consistently listened to something else), it still lags behind. For example, if I select a song by entering Apple Music via the widget, leave, and immediately return, the widget will briefly show what I was looking at before quickly moving to a random place of its choice (sometimes matching the outer face of the widget, sometimes not). If I am listening to a song, and click the widget to view the name of the song, it sometimes switches what is playing - essentially losing my place and ability to add new music to my library ad I hear it from curated playlists. App switching and multi tasking is all but impossible with these new widgets and while I’ve been holding out hope they’d update soon, I’m losing hope and about to abandon them entirely. iTunes was the OG - why does Apple Music suck so much these days?!!

Are you guys still having issues with this? Every time I make the music app into a widget on the screen, whenever I click on an artist and close it and come back, it switches to the browser every time.

Yeah iOS 13 was much better. I love the new widgets, but it’s horrible when it comes to Apple Music. I had to switch to Spotify cause it got extremely annoying and thinking of canceling my subscription to apple since they won’t fix it.

I found that the Apple Music widget will update only if you’re listening to albums within the Apple Music subscription. If you’re selecting music that you purchased and own and have downloaded, it doesn’t update the widget for me.

Even with “use listening history” turned on I had no luck. I was happy to see the release of the Spotify widget for the home screen. It’s still lacking some of the functions I’d like (play/ pause from widget) but it opens appropriately and allows seamless multi tasking and app switching. I had been in the process of switching over to Apple Music from Spotify, but after about a year trying it I’ve given up and gone back to Spotify.

I've customized an art cover for my playlist in Apple Music, but widget just doesn't update the cover. Any solutions?

Remove first the Apple Music widget. Then, You have to go to the album that you want to show up in your Apple Music widget, then play a song from that specific album. After a few minutes, add the widget and the album shown in the Music widget will change.

*edited - oh it’s not necessary to remove the Apple Music widget beforehand

Yeah, the widget says "recently played" and shows albums/track art that was out of date even BEFORE I added the widget. And it NEVER updates. What's the point.

I had the same problem. I toggled on “Use Listening History” in settings>music and now it updates.

I still can’t understand why the Apple Music widget doesn’t have Play/pause buttons!
