Safari update to 14.0 broke Youtube?

I let my iMac update Safari a day or few ago, to Safari 14.0. Now MANY Youtube videos won't play. Some still will, but most will not. I can search and get results and see the preview image (not motion video), but when I try to load and play an individual video, I get:

"An error occurred. Please try again later. (Playback ID:xxxxxxxxxxx)"

I've paused Ghostery and AdBlock, in case those were the problem. No joy.

Any other thoughts? I can't seem to identify why some vids play but most don't. It's not based on video publisher or 'channel,' because I can find certain videos that play properly from a given one, but most don't.

Any ideas?

Thank you both for the suggestions. The account(s) I use is (are) not Admin account(s). I do use a VPN, always, so that's not something that has changed. The same VPN doesn't cause trouble for the other browsers (Firefox, Opera), doesn't interfere on any other Apple devices, and didn't interfere before Safari updated to 14. As we used to do at IBM Service ages ago, I've isolated the problem such that I know what the _only_ thing that was changed on the system is. It's Safari 14. (-:

Completely uninstalling both the AdBlock and Ghostery extensions seems to have allowed the videos to play properly. Overall, that's not a good outcome.

Hi, I am glad that someone is discussing about this issue and I faced the exact same problem. It all happen after I updated the latest Big Sur.

I noticed that all YouTube video with ads doesn't play, even after I uninstall my Adblock completely. I tried to search any files in my computer that are related to Adblock and delete it but still doesn't work. Is there any methods that I can try out?

Thank you

If you are signed into YouTube, if you sign out do they play normally?

Are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?

Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Safe Mode - About.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. After pasting the report in a PasteBin page, go to the top of the page, and copy the address in the URL bar. Paste that in a new reply.        Pastebin.
