iOS 14 sleep wake up alarm sound not working on iPhone

Since updating to iOS 14 on my iPhone XR and watchOS 7 on my Apple Watch Series 3, my Sleep/Wake Up alarm sound (Early Riser) does not work on my iPhone. My watch vibrates to wake me but there is no activity on my iPhone. Prior to the updates, my watch vibrated AND my phone sounded the alarm. I preferred that.

I have made sure that my volume is turned up on Sounds & Haptics under the Sleep app as well as under Settings. Do Not Disturb is set to end at my Wake Up time.

I too was having this Issue and it was driving me insane. I don't like wearing my watch when I sleep. I finally figured out how to turn it off from the watch and let it play through your phone!

Go into the clock app on your iPhone --> alarm/wake and click "change" --> click "edit schedule" --> scroll down and click "options"--> scroll down and click "manage sleep in the Apple Watch app --> scroll down and click "don't use this watch for alarm".

***NOTE: This will not vibrate your watch or play any part of the alarm through your watch! It will only play on your iPhone***

I have had the same issues as everyone else here, and i’ve waken up late multiple times. Although I wanted to keep using the sleep app, I also added an additional normal alarm five minutes after my sleep wake up for the days I use the alarm in case i didn’t wake up from the vibrations from my watch. It isn’t what I wanted, but hopefully this can help a few of you out temporarily as Apple hopefully fixes this :)

I get the direction Apple is going with looping sleep onto the “wake up” alarm- but I really don’t know anyone who wears their watch to sleep. That’s just my experience- and it could be many people do.

Yes, lots of people do. That's why Apple implemented the sleep tracking feature on the Apple Watch: lots of user requests.

Try turning off the nightstand mode on your watch. That seems to have worked for some people. I don't know though as I wear my watch to bed.

I'm on 14.1 on phone and on 7.0.2 on the Watch and this issue is still not fixed for me. Today my phone did not light up or sound an alarm at all, just my watch vibrating.

This new version of the 'bedtime' function is useless. It doesn't sound an alarm on my phone but it does vibrate my watch, but not sound an alarm on it. Even with the haptics turned up, it doesn't wake me as i'm a heavy sleeper. Three times now i've overslept.

I would venture that this version of the the 'bedtime' function is even more pointless than the last iteration for me.

I'm just going to do what i've always done, and set actual alarms in the clock app and turn off the bedtime function. At least I know those work.

Apple, please allow us to remove the watch from the alarm system and just have the alarm function on the phone, and ignore the watch entirely.

Everyone try not to attack me. I am 70, still working and definitely NOT a tech person. I have iPhone X and just got rid of my Apple watch 2 and bought a version 6. When I downloaded ios14 I had same problems, found your community discussions and tried following suggested fixes with no luck. All of a sudden I got an ios 14.1 and issue corrected itself. Wake/Sleep is in clock, I have Mon-Fri set for 6am and Sat/Sun no alarm. It looks exactly like what I had before ios 14 and works the same.

I know everyone in these discussions knows way more than I do about this. Did I just get lucky. Has no one else found it working again now?

One thing for it going off on the charger is to make sure “nightstand mode” is also disabled.

For some unknown reason, it was decided that this could make the alarm trigger on the watch as well.

Who would decide to use the little watch speaker while it’s on the charger now, as an alarm system, over the obviously larger speakers in the phone, is beyond me.

But make sure you disable that as well, unless that has been reverted in one the latest patches.

Right, it's not called bedtime anymore but it's the same idea-- a set sleep/wakeup time for specific days of the week. I mentioned it because in the settings for that function in the health app it says if you wear your watch to bed, that's where the alarm occurs. which is why I wanted to see if everyone was using that function as their alarm, or just normal alarms.
