Macintosh HD, cannot write to it

How do I create a shortcut for this drive? I cannot move it, make an alias or anything. This is where ALL my working files are and I use it CONSTANTLY. I really need it to show up on the desktop. Anyone have an answer for me? Thanks.

I have tried Finder > Preferences > General > Hard Disks.
