Surround Sound / 5.1 Broken in Netflix on tvOS 14?

I can report the same problem after the recent Netflix app update. I updated to tvOS last week and 5.1 surround sound was working fine with Netflix until the app update on Tuesday. I have a LG CX OLED and Marantz NR1602 which does not decode Dolby Atmos.

Plex also updated automatically yesterday and now my content only plays with 2.0 not surround sound. The same movie plays in correct sound sound with Infuse which has not had a recent update.

tvOS 14 has changed the auto setting sound output. I send sound via HDMI ARC to my AV receiver. With tvOS 13, i had to set the Apple TV to down mix to Dolby Digital 5.1 to get 5.1 surround sound as I cannot pass through 5.1 LPCM over ARC with my setup. Now, the auto setting correctly sends a Dolby digital 5.1 signal over ARC on Apple TV+, Amazon Prime video and Netflix until the recent app update broke surround sound. I suspect that the recent app updates in Netflix and Plex are to blame but only on tvOS 14.

It would be good if hear if the updated Netflix app on tvOS13 has broken surround sound. Also, has anyone else noticed the same problem with surround sound following the Plex update this week?

No 5.1 and Atmos on my Apple tV 4k. The 5.1 and Atmos badges are displayed for shows but only output PCM 2.0 on my receiver.

I did a reset and now even 5.1 and Atmos badges are gone.

Atmos is working on iTunes movies.

I noticed this same problem on my Apple TV 4K yesterday (Wednesday 9/23). I've been going crazy trying to figure out why I'm no longer receiving Dolby Atmos audio while watching content from Netflix clearly labeled as Dolby Atmos. It was working fine before yesterday.

After fooling with all the different settings on my Apple TV and my Yamaha receiver, nothing helped. That's when I went into other apps (Disney+, Apple TV+) and played content with Dolby Atmos, and it worked perfectly. It seems to be a problem with Netflix only.

Has Netflix acknowledged this problem and offered a solution? Is there a way to obtain and use the Netflix app prior to the most recent update?

I’ve personally reported this issue to Netflix as it’s seems to be a fault with the latest Netflix app update and not TVOS 14 given that all the other apps such as Disney + are playing Atmos content with no issues. Netflix said they are aware of the issue reported by numerous customers and are working on a resolution.

I am having the same problem only getting 2 channel audio, no 5.1 or atmos on Netflix with my Apple TV 4K, played around with every setting under the sun, updated my reciever (Yamaha RXA3060) and even reset my Apple TV. I hope it is fixed soon, so frustrating ):

Oh my god I’m so glad I’m not alone. Inoticed this not only with netflix not putting out 5.1 but ATMOS also. And even the movies purchased in itunes don’t put out ATMOS only 5.1. Also, very strange if you go to the audio settings of the atv you have to click change audio and then back to don’t change to get the option immersive audio.... please fix this Apple

I'm having this issue with multiple 5.1 audio source on the new Apple tvOS 14.

Top Gun is on Amazon Prime right now (advertises 5.1 audio), but my AV Receiver detects the audio stream as Stereo.

Cars (bought from iTunes Store) is also playing as Stereo.

But the Avengers on Amazon Prime plays in 5.1.

Same problem for me on Apple TV HD. It was working fine last night, but tonight it’s 2.1 in Netflix while other apps are working normally.

I’m not happy about this, but at least it’s a known issue and not related to the new preamp I just installed on Tuesday. I was getting worried that I had a bigger problem.

Edit: Whoops, 2.0. It’s the subwoofer indicator that’s lit on the processor when in stereo mode, not the LFE.

Deleting and re-installing Netflix didn’t do the trick for me. Even series like Big Bang Theory don’t show 5.1 symbol whereas it does when playing netflix on WebOs app.

also this issue is not isolated to Netflix only on the ATV 4k. Every movie in my itunes purchased library that should output ATMOS is only giving me 5.1

Same here, updated yesterday to iOS 14 and now I can see 5.1 and atmos on Netflix but when i play these titles only stereo sound coming. Very disappointing.

Other apps like apple TV, prime video plays in 5.1 and atmos. But only Netflix not playing in 5.1 and atmos.

Nope. Everything worked perfectly weeks ago.

in ituned movies it shows atmos yes (compared to netflix) but when looking at the signal that sonos is receiving it’s only 5.1 dd. Whereas it showed atmos in the past. Only the atv isn’t passing the atmos signal anymore and previously it had no issues with that.

Deleted and added Netflix app 5 times. First time works but after that, no luck. Every video subscription service (Apple TV, Amazon Prime, etc) all support 5.1 while Netflix chokes and only supports stereo after the TVOS 14 update.

Delete Netflix app and re-add. I’m getting Atmos.

I’m having the same issue. 5.1 is working with all the other apps and like you I’ve been playing settings for over an hour with no luck.

I am seeing the issue as well. It looks like the Netflix app had recent update (Monday). That may be the issue rather than the Apple TV.
