M4P format convert to M4A or MP3?

I have over 2000 songs purchased through iTunes in the last 15 years. Around 100 are the old .M4P format and can't be played in my DJ software. Tried deleting and redownloading, but it still retains the protection. Even tried converting to AAC and MP3 but both are restricted.

Apple phone support only suggested repurchasing the songs, which I refuse to do for stuff I already bought... Please help!

I'm almost at the point of playing 100 songs into my computer from another computer via 3.5mm cable and recording it... but that just seems like a sad waste of life.

You can burn 128k DRM protected purchased music to audio CD, then rip back in a DRM-free format for a small loss of quality. Alternatively if you take a subscription to iTunes Match then once your old items are matched you should be able to remove the local downloads then redownload 256k DRM free copies that you can continue to use after closing your iTunes Match subscription.
