ios14 email not refreshing properly

Hi - I am using the apple email app to connect to my virgin email account. Since ios14 the app does not refresh the email list in two ways. Firstly, when it says I have new mail, it does not show them in the inbox. When I close the app and re-open it or if I click the 'unread' icon I get to see them.

Secondly, when I view the messages the blue dot clears in-message to show I have read them.

When I return to the main inbox the messages now appear but have a blue 'unread' dot against them.

On top of this, the service also seems very slow, both to refresh the list and to display message content.

None of these issues pre-date the ios update.

Can anyone help (just replying don't use Virgin will not help). Thanks

To start, make sure you’re running the latest iOS version (currently iOS 14.0.1) to see if that helps:


Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


If it doesn’t, try signing out of, and then back into your email (if it’s an iMAP account). 


To delete the account, tap Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your Email Account] > Delete Account.


To add the account to your iPhone again, follow these steps:


Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
