ios 14 missing password for email acount

After upgrading to ios 14.0 (and problem still occurs after 14.0.1), I am having issues accessing my IMAP email server - getting the error 'missing password'. Have checked the settings and the correct password is there... No issues prior to the upgrade.

Anyone else having similar issues?

SMTP is working OK (different account - username & password) - I can send emails, just cant receive them

After wasting way too much time on this, I have found that if the password for the email address has a full stop in it (so i assume any character would work) then the email address works fine. If the password is only letters I am unable to add the email address.

.... all good if you don't have multiple devices to change the passord on .... not good when you need to change password on lots of devices.

I noticed that my iPhone (X) and iPad now both on iOS 14.2 both cannot connect to my ATT ( Pacbell ) email account;

I noticed this this morning when checking email on my iPhone that there had been no updates and the tinyest of error messages at the bottom of the screen. My email access continues on my desktop using Outlook or the web based browser so I know my email is otherwise functional at the moment.

I received the "No password provided" error. As a retired developer I know the frustration of a user when a meaningless error message is displayed and "no password provided" is a useless error message when no further diagnostic information is provided. C'mon Apple up your game a little. This just like the recent change you implemented to 'randomize ' the MAC address on your devices; Very little or no warning, extremely difficult to discover the cause. A crappy way to roll out changes no matter how well meaning the intent.

It's become more and more prevelenet with the systems. Ever since Steve Jobs died, things have been going sideways. Decisions are being made that don't help the end user, in fact, they hamper the end user. Since I updated to Catalina, I've had problem after problem, even with the latest version. When I setup a new Mac mini 2018 last week that came with Catalina, the mouse buttons would not work, I had to do a reinstall of Catalina, which fixed the mouse, but made other things worse. There's not a chance I'm going to Big Sur. I wish I could go back to Mojave, but I'm afraid that would cause a whole other set of problems.

I keep saying to myself that I feel like I'm dealing with Windows with the convolutions and inefficiencies.

I manage my own server which has 2 IMAP email accounts that I use.

Recently I change the email password on the server for both accounts.

My iPad uses the iPad version of iOS.

I changed the password on my iPad to match the new password on my server,

Email on the iPad works fine.

I also have an iPhone 11 using iOS 14.4

I changed the password on my iPhone.

Alas, I keep getting the same error message that others have reported in this thread.

My phone also has a Comcast email account.

That account does email OK.

Of course the password has not been changed on this account.

It is off that email via my server works on my iPad but does not work on my iPhone.

I went into settings > general and fiddled with date/time. That did not help.

I will try connecting to iTunes on my PC and playing with date/time

Just experiencing the same problem after coming back to it from the Gmail app in order to take advantage of notifications from VIPs only. And because I use an alias for sending in that Gmail account, I understand I need to install it via IMAP rather than the regular Google login option, in order to use the alias.

Did you happen to find a solution to this?

I'm having the same problem as everyone else. After working fine for many years, all of a sudden, when i try to download email I get the dreaded, "No password provided for <myaccount>. Please go to Mail Account Settings and enter a password." However, when I do so I see my password is already entered. Trying to set up email on another of my devices yields the same message. If Apple can't support email, perhaps they should refund a large part of the iPhone's cost to their customers. Or fix this issue in the next update.

I started having this problem three days ago. I have two AOL email accounts on my iPad and phone. After updating to the latest system software, I started receiving the missing password error message on one of the email accounts in both devices. I verified in settings that the password is still there. I reentered it anyway but I still receive the error message. I also tried the suggestion of changing the date and time in settings but this did not work for me. I don’t understand why I’m only having trouble with one email and not both. Luckily I can access the missing email information under the AOL app but it’s a lot simpler to do this under the basic email account. Does anyone have any good suggestions how I can fix this? Thanks in advance!

Same. I’ve made no changes whatsoever but suddenly AOL mail will not load on any of my 3 Apple devices (Phone and 2 IPads) as of this past weekend 2/08/2021. Says no password entered but going to mail/settings/account and yup there it is. I’ve even deleted and re-entered but still will not load. I can manually retrieve the emails by using web browser and accessing via their website with the same information. That’s a hassle. I do use ATT and someone mentioned them changing the way passwords are authenticated some something I didn’t quite understand. However, my yahoo and gmail accounts appear to be working fine so I’m not sure how a change with ATT would affect email from AOL but not other email servers. Help please?
