Accountsd Mac cpu is high

accountsd process is eating 500% cpu and making macbook pro 15,1 useless after Catalina 10.15.7 update.

Even if you force this process to quit it comes back at ~500% CPU and make lots os apps to hang.

I have tried to disable iCloud Mail integration and other suggestions related to "accountsd" that fixed this issue in previous Catalina versions but nothing worked.

Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem on my MacBook Air since the upgrade.

I called the Apple Care this afternoon. We tried some « stuff » that didn’t worked.

They advised me to reinstall Catalina..

I’ll tell you if it worked

Did you get any answers?

Not sure about this since I don’t have Mail (I use Outlook). Even though, I have tried to disable Mail and it didn’t work.

Only fix that worked (and keep working) was unchecking KeyChain and reboot (MacOS automatically rechecks KeyChain for you).

I did the same fix in another Macbook Pro I have which runs under a different iCloud account and it also worked fine.

it may have to do with something related to iCloud sync (maybe not directly to do with KeyChain) but I’m glad it worked and keep working.

Thanks!

I experienced the exact same thing with 500%+ CPU use coming from “accountsd “. However I seem to have found the issue. It had to do with my Apple ID.

I logged out and the computer cooled down and the CPU usage went straight back to normal levels.

I then logged back in and the CPU use fired up towards 3-400% again, but quickly went down to normal levels once again.

I have not had this problem happen again after I logged out then back in.

Hope this works for you!

When I ask the system now it says it is fully up to date. So my question is why this update wasn't installed automatically?! Why do we have to search in Internet, to go until this page, to downscroll and finally to read your (helpfull) comment to be able to maybe solve this problem by downloading a "Combo Update" (that is btw taking ages to download) ??! This is crazy.

Just had the same problem after updating my 2019 MacBook Pro to MacOS Catalina 10.15.7. I contacted support by chat and in the end the only solution was to re-install MacOS (see below) it was a success. My laptop is back to normal 😊

To reinstall the MacOS (and keep your files) :

1) power off the MacBook.

2) Then start it back up and press and hold the Command-R keys together till you get the Apple icon.

3) Once in MacOS Recovery select Reinstall MacOS.

this dream came to me from one moment to the next. I updated from 10.15.6 to 10.15.7, deleted my Google accounts, reset my keychain ... nothing worked. Then I signed out of the Apple ID and signed in again. My computer asked me for my local password, presumably to change something in the setup and that did the magic. The CPU load went back immediately.

I discovered this bug after every kind of those recommendations again.

but I had a quiet and performant time today, after I quit all processes with over 10% CPU usage and a „d“ in the end of its name. Additional I quit the process WindowServer and after the new login my Mac was quiet...and did a good job.

if somebody need more details, let me know.
