Received a telephone call from someone claiming to be Apple support. Is this new?

I just received an "official" sounding telephone call from someone warning me that they've noticed multiple attempts to access my Apple account. Caller ID showed number identical to mine except for last 4 numbers. The robotic voice caused me to disconnect immediately.

Calls from Apple I have received numerous calls in the last couple of days that say they are from Apple support. I haven’t answered them, assuming they are junk, but they leave a message to call 415-****-8257. Are these legitimate? I’ve looked up my account and nothing seems to be wrong with it. Phone calls from "Apple Support" I've just received 3 suspicious phone calls concerning security breaches to Apple products advising me to talk to the caller about it. Anyone else?

Such calls are made by criminals, wanting to trick you.

Apple do not make calls unless requested by you.
