Users that buy a new Apple TV set-top box (or iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac), can get a free year of Apple TV+. Users have to redeem the offer and sign up for the service. This starts a subscription, for which the first year is free from subscription fees.

The offer is for Apple TV+, the channel featuring Apple Originals. The subscription does not include other content in the Apple TV app. Notably iTunes Store content (buy or rent) is not part of Apple TV+.
To see just the content of Apple TV+ in the Apple TV app, navigate to Watch Now, scroll down to Channels, then select tv+.
Or look for the promotional tiles with the tv+ logo on the artwork.
