Any WiFi router that has MAC filter enabled may not accept the “Private” MAC address feature of the new feature added in iOS 14.0.1 to each WiFi profile saved. Turning off the private Mac Address on the specific WiFi profile may allow your device to connect.
Another issue is it connects fine but moments later it prompts for password on a saved profile. Turning off “wifi assist” in Cellular settings (absolute bottom of the list) will allow the device to remain connected on weaker range areas of this wifi profile.
I suspect the failing over to WiFi profile flip flopping is triggering a false positive on the algorithm that the wifi profile saved is incorrect and thus asks for a re-authentication.
THAT SUCKS!!!
It reminds me of the time I had a Windows laptop..... Only solution for every problem with the operating system was to start from the scratch.
I really expected more from Apple .... This is pathetic....
I must report that I've spent half an hour with Apple support (still 5 days to go on my one year's warranty), they had me reset the iPhone, and I'm stucked at same f.... point. No matter if I indeed shut that ''Private adress'' button or not.
Next step: Apple store, and they'll have to live with their own philosophy of repainting the entire streets and redoing the roads when a road map (iOS) is the problem : It's either they change the defective road map or replace the iPhone.
This is really becoming RIDICULOUS !
How many hours have you guys all wasted on this ? Probably more than the programming team who released that crappy update.
Wifi just quit on my iPhone 11 Pro and iPad Pro 10.5 about an hour ago - both on iOS 14.0.1. I've tried restarting and/or resetting network settings and neither worked. Wifi is working fine on my iMac. It would be really helpful to get a fix for this.
i’ve never used a VPN. I have not updated my iPhone to the 14.0.1, Nor will I until Apple repairs these bugs.
I am truly disappointed in Apple’s release is over the past couple of years, and the newer releases seem to cause more problems than a cure.
I spent about 30 minutes. That was after having spent several hours trying all the proposed stuff here and more.
How many people have so many hours to waste trying to solve that stupid issue by themselves ? 😁
Following this thread. I have the same problem too. Since the update of 14.0.1 the wifi issue started happening. I just updated to 14.1 but the problem hasn't changed. So far, all of my household's device have the same problem across our iPhone iPad iMac and Macbook. The only device that doesn't seem to have a problem is the Apple TV, which makes it even more strange. Hoping for a solution soon.
Yes, same issue with WIFI since the last iOS update. I've had this WIFI issue on my iPhone SE (2020) since installing IOS 14. (the phone says IOS 14.0.1 is also installed.) No issues with IOS 13, then suddenly poor WIFI signal and frequent disconnections or no-ping error messages. I'm frequently checking for a new update to fix this bug, but I continuously get an 'unable to connect' error even while checking for the update. It seems I need to be on wifi to check for, or get a system update when available for this bug, but the wifi is now too unstable to do that. Quite the conundrum. Does anyone know if Apple is aware that WIFI issues are still a problem, even after the IOS 14.01 update?
I have/had no VPN installed. Brand new iPhone 12... out of the box... would not maintain a WiFi connection. The hack I described above has resolved the issue. My connection has not dropped since I performed it.
Same...
I’m having the most trouble I’ve ever had with connections since the 14 update. But since 14.1 it’s even worse. Sending imessages takes a very long time. Add a picture or video, it’s even longer. I’ve reset my routers, reset settings and restarted my phone and still problems. It also happens when I’m at someone else’s house on a different router. Which we did a reset on as well. I decided to google the issue and I see a lot of others are having the same problems. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I’ve never had so many issues.
Every third response mentions vpn’s.
I’ve never used a vpn, ever, and my wi-fi dies on my iPhone when I turn on my iPad that was updated to 14.-1. My iPhone is still in the 13’s and will remain that way until this mess is corrected.
Nope, no VPNs.
I have just tried KPMullens “hack” so we will see.
The connection issues are (hopefully now were ) sporadic. Usually if I have this issue it’s an outage with the carrier. Kind of like driving around and losing data connection because of coverage. However, in this case it’s during WiFi usage in my home as well as my sisters home.
fingers crossed and hoping resetting the network helps.
Thanks for the input.
Well, any software that is more than one line of code has bugs. And even one line can have bugs; I have a 3 line C program that I wrote 30 years ago and that I use constantly, and it has several bugs that I mostly ignore. iOS is millions of lines, and probably has thousands of bugs, most of which you will never notice. But I haven’t seen any consistent bugs with Wi-Fi in iOS 14.
Yes! I read that and snickered.
30 years of experience and can’t find a 30 year old problem, yet is commenting on a 2020 problem that confuses Apple, that has hundreds of top programmers that can’t figure out the major bugs in a billion dollar industry.
This shows the quality of Apple team nowadays?
so many errors and inefficient quality parameters carried out before a release. Was UAT not done yet before release?
There are plenty of trust worthy customers which Apple is showing its back.
Well, the Software Version on my iPad pro reads "14.1 (18A8395)", so are we talking the same version? Whatever, once the software updated, the iPad will not connect to the internet through my wifi router. Worked fine before the "update", but not currently. Have been following the community conversation on this and tried most everything suggested except a full router update, which seems complicated. Our 2 iPhones initially choked a bit on the update but seem to be working fine now, and our PCs are able to access the internet through this same router. However, the network reset gets one page up, but on the second tab, ipad will not connect to internet. Just spent 15 minutes on the phone with apple support. Followed all instructions, but still same result..... one successful connection, then nothing. Very frustrating....
